Riu Oliva Beach Resort

We spent here a week with my family and stayed in a family room in annexe. The location is perfect! There are stunning beaches around, very long and wide and beautiful sandy dunes... We loved it there! The hotel is old, but we didn't mind. We knew it from the reviews we had read before going there, so it wasn't any surprise for us. I don't care if the hotel is old looking and needs some refurbishment or complete reconstruction as long as it's clean. For me, it wasn't perfectly clean... rooms were ok, but there was insect everywhere!, cutlery and glasses in restaurant weren't clean enough (had to check each glass before drinking), and the high chairs for babies weren't cleaned at all. There were two biggest problems for me - insect and very uncomfortable beds. The insect was everywhere! They were using a spray which obviously didn't work, at some point i asked to keep the spray in our room and i found out they were using a cheap spray for mosquitos and flies, so obviously it couldn't help at all. So i bought a spray myself in the supermarket - spray for all insect and it helped a bit. When i asked to be moved in a different room, they said all rooms in annexe have the insect because its coming from the garden/terrasses... It's not true! After i sprayed all the room (mainly on floor and around doors), the insect appeared again on walls mainly in bathroom. They should hire a professional desinsection company to get rid of it! The second problem are very very uncomfortable beds! I understand that to reconstruct such a big hotel is a massive investment and they need to get a permission or whatever, but at least they should change the mattresses. The bed covers also looked terrible. Food is ok. Quite big selection, so everyone can find something... But don't expect any gourmet experience! It's more like a cantyne style... What i minded a bit were overcooked pasta and not tasty at all. But kids didn't mind :) And the sweet pastry for breakfast weren't tasty at all, had some artificial flavour... Water was not all inclusive. The mandarin restaurant was quite nice though, we enjoyed the food. It was a nice change. Pools were supposed to be heated, but they weren't at all. The water was as cold as in the ocean. Staff was nice, polite and smiley. Overall it was a nice holiday, but thanks to the nice location. If we came back again? Yes, we would love to go back, because of the beaches, but we will stay in the hotel again only if they get rid of the insect.

We have stayed at this hotel many times but unfortunately this will be our last. The hotel is very tired in places with chipped paint, broken floor tiles, stains on carpets etc. The beds in the main hotel are the most uncomfortable we have ever slept on. The food in the main restaurant was luke warm and on occasion tasteless. We did eat at the Mandarin restaurant one evening and it was a pleasure to have hot, fresh tasty food. The location is stunning but be prepared for the wind. We found protection from the wind around the pool in the annexe where the bar staff were very friendly and attentive. Overall, our three night stay was enough and I’m sorry we won’t return as a complete overhaul/large investment is well over due.
