View All DealsLajares holidays take you to a stuck-in-time village surrounded by dramatic rock formations, a 15-minute drive from some great surf spots.
You’ll find the understated village of Lajares pinned to a dusty, cactus-studded landscape in the north of Fuerteventura. This place conjures up orange and peach-coloured lunar-like rock formations that wouldn’t look out of place on a harvest moon. And you’ll meet your off-the-beaten-track quota no problem, thanks to the fact that this town is all about the locals. The few tourists who pass through tend to be making their way to the coast.
The closest beach to Lajares is a 15-minute drive away in Corralejo. This is Fuerteventura’s main northern resort. And thanks to constant warm breezes floating over from the Sahara, it’s a real mecca for surfers and kite boarders. A heap of sand dunes makes for prime sun-worshipping territory, if you don’t fancy hitting up the surf.
When you’re not kicking back in one of Lajares’ family-run tavernas or surfing in Corralejo, don’t miss the chance to drive 20 minutes east over to Corralejo National Park. Here, you can hike your way around 10 square miles of eerily quiet sand dunes and ancient solidified lava formations. You can also explore the park by 4x4.
