Cabeco da Ponta holidays
Jump to sections
Holidays to Cabeco da Ponta are like escaping to your own luxury retreat. The island of Porto Santo's still relatively off-grid, and has some of the best beaches you can imagine.
Off the beaten track
You might not have heard of Cabeco da Ponta, but that’s the way the locals want it. Just like the rest of the island, it’s an in-the-know holiday destination. You’ll find it right beside Porto Santo’s nine-kilometre beach, where everything’s tailor-made for slowed-down breaks. Shops, bars and restaurants are few and far between, which makes it a proper slice of peace and quiet.
Sun, sand and scuba
Porto Santo's as synonymous with beaches as Venice is with canals. Long ribbons of sand are its main calling card, and most visitors come to soak up the sun on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. If you’re not slathering on the suncream, you’ll probably be in a wetsuit ready to explore what’s beneath the waves. Scuba diving's the number-one watersport here, and the seabed near Cabeco da Ponta is home to a huge sunken freighter.
Vila Baleira
The island’s capital, Vila Baleira, falls in line with Porto Santo’s laid-back lifestyle. Take a stroll through the town, and you’ll see whitewashed houses, palm-lined squares, and sleepy pavement cafés. Christopher Columbus once lived in these parts, and there’s a museum in the explorer’s honour. Down by the waterfront, you’ll find a handful of contemporary bars, as well, just to spice things up.
