Pestana Alvor South Beach

Very nice place, staff very friendly and helpful and the hotel very quirky. The room was very comfortable and food at breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The walk into the town took about 10 mins to lovely restaurants that sold amazing food and fresh fish, although there was some restaurants closer to the hotel on the boardwalk along the beach front. Every restaurant we tried I could not fault, even the restaurant that belonged to the hotel just 2 mins away was nice we had a special price of 22 euros each for 3 course including a bottle of wine. Would recommend although I can imagine being very busy in the summer season we had no trouble getting a sun-bed, also the beach have deals as well 2 beds, umbrella and a free drink 13 euros. Not much there for children apart from a pool, however the beach is literally through the gate and there are jet skis, slides etc to occupy them.

The rooms are modern and well furnished. However our bathroom had a glass wall with a privacy curtain didn’t bother us but might not suit some. Aircon might not be sufficient in summer. Safe, pool towels were included staff were excellent. Housekeeping was first class with turn down service in the evening and extra towels if required. The only poor thing was breakfast- the quality of the food was excellent however there wasn’t enough staff. It was often hard to find a clean table, mugs / bowls often ran out so you had to wait for some time . Pestana this isn’t good enough order more cups and bowls and employ more staff at breakfast then you will have an excellent hotel.

My wife and I have been coming to Alvor for a dozen years or so and this the best hotel we have stopped in so far. The hotel is nice and quiet and next to the beach and boardwalk so you don’t get any better then that. Most hotel check in times in Alvor are 3pm so be aware of this and then you won’t moaning about this when you get there. Just take your swim ware in your hand luggage or on the top of your suitcase as the have a changing room available so you can get changed and get on with your holiday. Pool towels are available from reception on arrival and can be changed every day if you want. Stayed in a ground floor pool view room which was excellent, you have 2 sun beds right outside the rooms which get the sun most of the day. The only fault I had with the room lack of wardrobe space. The is some kind of frame with hanging rail and a few baskets to put you clothes in. Not ideal but we managed, this needs improving. We stayed Bed and breakfast which was echoed. There was a good selection of cooked and continental,your eggs where cooked fresh to order. Bed and breakfast in Alvor is the best way to go as the food in restaurants is fantastic. The food and drink in the hotel was good but at hotel prices. The pool area is great and on three levels and is nice and quite. There is a gated boardwalk directly to the fantastic beach. Yes there is some reserving of Sun beds but you could always get a bed, so not a problem. The hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the first set of bars at the Dunas complex and about a 20 minute walk to the main part of the strip with plenty more bars on the way. I would definitely recommend this hotel .
