1st Visit to Malta
Where do I start.. this hotel is absolutely... Brilliant ! (Got you going there eh!) So we are just coming to the end of a week's stay at the MBH, we arrived early hours (4am) on the 15th October and the reception team were very welcoming and had some refreshments ready for us while we checked in our details. The room was clean and tidy and upto the job 100%! The following morning we went for breakfast (we did the half board option via TUI/Thomson) and was pleasantly surprised at the selection avaliable, suitable for most tastes and all fresh beit vegetarian (speak to the receptionist in dinner hall about booking veggie stuff, don't be afraid to ask!)Or for the carnivores,a plus for me is the bacon is Real bacon like in the UK!! Thumbs up from me .... The location of the hotel is further out from what you may call the main attractions of the island, but I would recommend buying a travel card before you go and be ready to use the bus, public transport Malta posted ours to our house back in UK before the holiday, the reception team are happy to answer any questions if the holiday rep isn't around. So be ready to use the busses, they can be crammed so getting on at MBH is better as it's one of the 1st stops of the route, coming back though you may not be as lucky getting a seat ( or a bus if full ) So back to the hotel, The pool areas are all clean and tidy and looked after and there is no "shade" that we witnessed that others have put and you have a large choice of pools, 1 indoors and a few others around the hotel outdoors. Clean and friendly staff around the pools and pool bars, we had no issues at all with getting a sun lounger if needed. The hotel has a small shop for the essentials and for any goods you pay in the gift shop just down the stairs (very trusting !) The food for dinner each night was super, and if you need a veggie meal just ask beforehand and they will get it ready,if you don't ask you don't get! Each night we had somthing different and the food was tasty hot and plentiful, yes, this is contrary to other reviews, and we just didn't get what people where going on about !? So 100% on food and cleanliness and so onto our room (B28) it was modern feel and had all the essentials, cleaned everyday by the cheerful maid and very helpful, has a kettle and cups and tea and coffee etc. The tv, I tried to retune myself to get some more channels, don't bother, it gets messy, due to the location and the fact you are on an island ia the middle of nowhere, the choice of free to air channels is limited but come on , GO OUTSIDE enjoy the company of your fellow travellers and the island, don't sit watching tv Lol! The bathroom was able size, had an odd glass sliding door to get used to, but nothing that caused any issues. The room was on a ground floor but still had an amazing view if the bay as per the pics. The hotel is Big across a number of buildings, but easily manageable to get around! Yes it is old, but they have done the best that they can and it shows in places but nothing that is going to ruin a holiday ! Evening entertainment .. Brilliant, it's not the West end so don't expect it, it's a small team that work tirelessly everyday from 10am till late to keep people happy, read the entertainment boards and take note of activities and join in if you want, nothing pushy from any of the team though. The shows are funny and in English, in fact half the team are from the UK,excellent singer from Leicester too, Julie is AMAZING, whoever booked her needs a oat on the back, the rest of the team are brill too - please pass on our gratitude MBH... Bar service was good and just a tip none of the hotel tills take cash at all, you must charge it back to your room and pay on departure,be careful with this ! Alternatively you get a pre paid card to use on bars and drinks etc... So all in all MBH we were very happy, thanks for making our 1st stay in Malta a successful and enjoyable experiance, I would recommend the Hotel and would read other bad reviews with caution,I did and nearly cancelled due to the worry of reading them, but glad we didn't, all entertainment, food and staff were all just right for us, but then again we are a polite couple, so always just remember to ask questions be courteous and enjoy your holiday. If there was one thing I could change it would be the music in the dining halls, maybe somthing a bit more upbeat :) 100% recommended -well done to the team.. Paul and Alex Leicester More
13 of us stayed here for a wedding on arrival near midnight the check in process wasn't particularly slick and took a while. Our room was for four people but it definitely is not a family sized room and very cramped. It was very clean but the bathroom was dated and in need of a refit. The view from was the room was fantastic. Food and drink all day was brilliant with plenty of choice. All the staff in all departments were friendly and helpful. The pool areas were clean tidy with plenty of loungers. The entertainment team worked so hard all day and were all very pleasant and not pushy to join in. The location of the hotel is good for Gozo as the ferry is 10 minutes away but about 1hr.30 from Valletta. Would i stay here again probably as there are no real negatives. More
Our friend who has lived in Malta for many years recommended this hotel to us for our first visit to Malta. It really is in the most picturesque location with every room having a view of the bay and the town of Mellieha on the other side of the bay. When the town is all lit up in the evening it is a wonderful sight. The gardens at the hotel are really beautiful, and have been thoughtfully landscaped. There is a bus stop only five minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel itself was built in the 60's and is a bit tired looking. The bedrooms which all have a balcony are a bit smaller than more modern hotels, and the long corridors within the hotel are rather soulless, having no photos or pictures as found in most hotels. On a negative note we found the pillows to be very poor for a four star hotel they were very thin and lumpy and we had to ask for extra ones. The toiletries provided were extremely minimal and of poor quality. On a positive note we found the hotel to be very clean and the staff were helpful and hard working. The food was plentiful and very varied. At breakfast you had to get your own tea or coffee from a machine. The tea turned out to be good indeed, the best we've ever tasted from a machine. We would certainly go back to the hotel as any negatives were far outweighed by the positives.More

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Mellieha Bay Hotel and after reading some of the reviews before we went we were not to sure what to expect, but we need not have worried from the time of check in until the time we left everything was fine, we were checked in and in our room 15 minutes after arrival . We were given a room on 3 rd floor overlooking gardens and bay with a balcony very nice room clean but not to big with fridge and tea and coffee facilities . Now the food as we were all/inc this came with wine at lunch and dinner or any other drink we wanted, the food in general was very good at all meals with something for everyone at each meal. With regards to drinks all of the local brands were fine but whisky gin of main brands were available at a little extra cost but if you were going to put tonic or dry ginger to it no difference. All staff were very good from Ladies who cleaned the rooms to Bar Staff and restaurant staff all very helpful The Hotel is in its own ground with about a 5 minute walk to Bus Stop to get bus to anywhere including to Gozo Ferry, Buses are a great way to get around and cheap 21 Euros gets you 7 days travel anywhere on Island or 2 Euros say Hotel to valletta one way. as a rule we do not go back to same hotel 2 years running but this one i would go back again. Hotel with stunning views
The hotel is almost 50 years old and looks quite austere on arrival, but once inside it is bright and updated. All rooms, which are attractive and well equipped, have a sea view, which is beautiful both in the day and at night when the town opposite is lit up.The staff throughout the hotel are really friendly and helpful. The food is good, but the tables are quite close and navigating a way through at busy times can be difficult. Sadly, some male guests failed to follow the hotel rule of long trousers at dinner. The WiFi was excellent in public areas, but difficult to maintain in the room. However, overall, a very nice hotel and enjoyable holiday.More
