With a pine-backed beach, a world-class spa and Venice on your doorstep, it’s easy to see why locals have been trying to keep holidays to Bibione under wraps.
Of all the beach resorts along the Venetian Riviera, this one is something of a well-kept secret. Just east of shout-out-loud Lido di Jesolo is the pretty seaside town of Bibione. When the temperatures heat up, this is where the Italians holiday. Its streets are devoted to cappuccino-sipping and gelato-slurping, but star billing goes to the beach.
Blue Flag winner
An 11-kilometre-long swathe of sand stretches out like a finger into the deep-blue Adriatic Sea. Add a trophy cabinet full of Blue Flag awards, and you know you’re in for something special. Not only is it one of the biggest beaches in Italy, but it’s also backed by a pinewood forest, which is sliced by cycling trails.
Bibione’s got its fair share of restaurants, bars and boutiques. Plus, you’re not far from plenty of other attractions. You’ve got Aquasplash waterpark and Gulliverland theme park within 15 minutes’ drive. Or culture-wise, a short boat trip eastwards brings you to Trieste. An hour or so in the opposite direction will drop you in Venice. It goes without saying, but the floating city makes for a daytrip and a half.
