Lake Levico is one of the cleanest lakes in Italy, making it one of the most pleasant to go for a dip in. The southern shore of the lake, by the Camping Village Lago Levico, is where you'll find the only dedicated lido, where you can spend the day cooling off in the refreshing waters.
The lido, which can be accessed by the public as well as the campsite residents, is made up of various grassy areas that are ideal for laying out your towel and soaking up the sun. There's also a snack bar onsite, so you're never too far from an ice cream.
Jutting out onto the lake from the lido are numerous jetties, which are usually used by little and big kids as runways to the water. They're also used as pick-up points for various watersports.
Levico Terme hosts a market on every second and fourth Monday of the month. It sells a range of local foodstuffs and souvenirs and is great for a bit of local atmosphere. Neighbouring towns also hold markets throughout the week - Borgo Valsugana, open every Wednesday, is one of the best. It's always best to go early, though, as many of the stalls tend to pack up after lunch.
The Via Dante Alighieri and the Via Guglielmo Marconi are the best streets for shopping in Levico Terme. You'll find gift shops, fashion, jewellery and handicrafts all for reasonable prices, meaning you can properly treat yourself.
The tiki-style bar at the Lido di Levico is the best place to end your day. With a cocktail in hand, you can sit and watch the sun set over the water. Most hotels in Levico also have onsite bars where you can have a drink or two before heading up to bed.
In mid-August, Levico Terme plays host to three days of live music and lots of laughs. The Blues Festival takes place in the historic town centre and offers fabulous live music, dancing in the streets and non-stop drinks. The shops even stay open later during the festival.
Traditional Trentino cuisine is at the forefront of the gastronomy scene in Levico Terme. Speciality Alpine cheeses, meats and polenta are used in most cooking, accompanied by different wines or grappe. As the town is not directly on the lakefront, not many eateries will have lake views. But with pedestrianised backstreets, you’ll enjoy the stroll to find somewhere for dinner.
Perched high up on the mountains, Malga Masi is a great place to unwind with spectacular views of the Valsugana. With homemade Trentino specialities on the menu and cows grazing around the restaurant, you’ll have an authentic taste of Alpine life.
Back in the centre of town is Enotece Boivin, a small restaurant with a huge knowledge of international cuisines - so much so that it it’s an award-winning eatery. And they offer a pretty reasonably priced tasting menu so everyone can try their colourful, creative dishes.
If you head to the edge of town, you’ll find Ristorante Pizzeria Millennium. Here you can expect a warm and relaxing atmosphere while enjoying creative dishes with fair prices - their pizza menu is incredible.
Levico is a quiet, laid-back area so it’s very peaceful to wander around on foot. Take a couple of hours to stroll all the way around the lake, or walk through the arboretum in the town centre.
Your Trentino Guest Card covers free trains to Trento (1 hour 10 minutes). From there, you can link to other exciting places like Venice (2 hours). The train station is by the Imperial Grand Hotel.
Free with your Trentino Card, there’s a good local bus service to Trento (45 minutes), Borgo Valsugana (25 minutes), Caldonazzo (5 minutes), Calceranica al Lago (10 minutes) and Pergine (15 minutes) – so it’s really easy to get out an explore beyond Levico.
The area around Lake Levico is ideal for exploring on foot. Start with a gentle stroll around the lake itself, which takes a couple of hours to go all the way around. The Via dei Pescatori, the fisherman’s path, is a particularly lovely wooded walk and takes around half an hour. The mountains above town offer more challenging hikes for those with more energy. Pick up a map from the tourist office, with details of 12 routes ranging from 1-4 hours long – these include walks to forts, ruins and botanical gardens, as well as paths to Castel Pergine and the highest viewpoint in the area.
