View All DealsGlyfada holidays sprinkle Rhodes-style sands down Athens' south coast. Plus, you can get to the capital and its world-famous sights in less than an hour.
Where Athens wins over crowds with its collection of historical ruins, Glyfada steals the show with its beach scene. Long, open stretches of sand are broken up by some of the city’s oldest marinas, which each come with a line of waterfront restaurants that are perfect for evening seafood meals. Watersports take a lot of the limelight here, too, so expect to see jet-skis and speedboats zigzagging across the water just off shore.
Glyfada’s an hour’s train ride south of the centre of Athens, so daytripping to see the city’s most impressive sights, like the Acropolis and Parthenon, is common practice. It’s made all the more easier thanks to the metro system. Glyfada’s so popular with people in the city that there’s a tram line that leads straight to the sand.
Like lots of Greek coastal resorts, Glyfada pairs its winning beachfront with a top-notch party scene. Nightclubs have been built right by the water’s edge, going from dinner to drinks to the dancefloor is a doddle. And if you prefer to end your day with something more dialled down, there are lots of cosy, family-run tavernas close by, too.
