  • #YourBigDay – Looking Back

After months of Facebook voting, military-style planning, and a spreadsheet or two, Kriss and Natalie’s big day in Cyprus finally arrived. Once the confetti had settled and they’d come back down to earth after the honeymoon, we grilled them on their fairy-tale wedding in the sun…

We’ve ooh-ed over the photo album, and we’ve ahh-ed over the virtual guestbook, and we’re still talking about Kriss and Natalie’s incredible (not to mention, first-of-its-kind) crowd-sourced wedding in Cyprus. Having heard from the lucky couple every step of their journey – from dress shopping to introducing the wedding party – we felt it was only fitting for them to reflect on what’s been a whirlwind few months ever since they won our #YourBigDay From Thomson competition. Without further ado, let’s pass you over to the newlyweds…

    She says…

“What are my stand-out memories from our big day? Well, I can’t believe how fast it all went. I remember having all my girls fussing around, and thinking how gorgeous my bridesmaids, flower girl and mum looked thanks to our amazing glam squad, Aleisha and Penny. I remember the walk through the hotel, and the nerves kicking in. And the walk to the wedding venue. And crying – partly because it was all so beautiful, but partly because Kriss cried. I loved our little London-style taxi and bus tour, which was one of the highlights for me. Everything was incredible, from the meal to the evening venue and the staff.

Our honeymoon was lovely. After everyone had gone home, it was just us and our boys – it was our first holiday as a family, which was really special. We went to the waterpark (which the boys loved) and Paphos Zoo, and we also took an open-top bus tour to Paphos’ museums and attractions. It was a busy week, but we did relax by the pool, too.

Looking back, we’re so glad we entered, as we’d never in our wildest dreams have been able to have the wedding we were given by Thomson. We are massively grateful for this opportunity, and so thankful and humbled by the support of the military families around the world… and to all of our friends and family, and everyone who voted for us.

In hindsight, I wish more family and friends had able to come out to Cyprus – and that I’d got more sleep during the voting process – but we couldn’t have been happier with how it turned out. It was the perfect wedding.”

    He says…

“I think one of the moments that stands out the most for me is the build-up, waiting for Nat to walk down the aisle. It had to be the most nerve-racking moment in my life. There hasn’t been a time in my life when I’d felt like that before, not even my interview to join the Army. But in that moment, when I caught sight of her in her wedding dress, I was just blown away by how beautiful she looked.

The Athena Beach Hotel and its staff were incredible – the service they provided was a testament to why so many people return there year after year. The wait staff adored our little boys and were always happy to help them and play little games to keep them entertained.  The setting for the hotel was absolutely stunning with the beautiful sunrises and sunsets – and since the beach is only a stone’s throw away from our room, we could easily head over there to play on the sand.

Would I do it all over again? Definitely. I mean, who wouldn’t love the idea of Thomson’s Facebook community picking out the choices for pretty much the whole wedding… it’s not so much Don’t Tell the Bride, as Don’t Tell the Bride and Groom!

The experience of the competition still hasn’t sunk in even two months on. We still look back and think to ourselves did we really win it? There were so many memories from our big day that will always remain in our thoughts. We can’t thank everyone enough for playing a part in our wedding and for giving us everything we’d always dreamed of.”
