Forget leaking tents and mud-soaked wellies – at a Croatian music festival you can combine your favourite music with sun, sand and swanky yacht parties. More than 20 festivals run each summer, making Croatia the number 1 destination for a festival holiday in Europe. Here’s our top 5 events…
Since launching in Miami in 1999, Ultra Music has taken over the dance music scene. It’s now held in more than 9 countries and draws crowds of 150,000. This year marks its 5th in Croatia and names like Tiesto, Steve Angello and Afrojack are on the bill. The festival runs from 10th to 12th July, but there are opening and closing parties for days either side, so you can keep partying all week long.
If camping, dips in the lake and watersports between watching big name acts sounds like your idea of heaven, this one’s for you. The 2015 line-up includes Florence And The Machine, Of Monsters And Men and Paolo Nutini. It’s held from the 22nd to 24th June, and as it’s the 10th anniversary this year, organisers say they’ve got some surprises in store.
Hip hop, soul and reggae are in the spotlight at Soundwave, with names like DJ Marky, Jay Electronica and Slum Village among the headline acts. It’s set in a secluded cove, near to the picturesque village of Tisno, from the 6th to the 10th August. On top of the main festival, party cruises run throughout the event. And there’s a massive after party in nearby Barbarella. New for this year, organisers are adding an outdoor cinema and have invited street artists from around the world to create unique murals in the grounds.
The best nightclubs along the Zrce beachfront share hosting duties at this festival, with names like Gorgon City, Duke Dumont and Annie Mac on the decks each night. They’ve got daytime raving sorted, too, thanks to daily boat and pool parties hosted by the likes of DJs Shy FX and Sigma. The festival runs from the 28th June to 2nd July on the island of Pag, which is well-known for having an amazing night scene throughout the summer.
This new addition to the Croatian festival scene is set to make a splash, with 3 days of house and electro anthems in a giant floating nightclub on the sea. From 18th to 21st June, 5,000 festivalgoers will dance ‘til dawn to world-famous DJs. Take a break from raving and you’ve got a pool, 5 bars and massage tables to relax on. And you can arrive in true VIP style at the yacht docking area.
It doesn’t end there. Some of Croatia’s other music events include Fresh Island Festival, Croatia Rocks, Electrobeach, Sonus, Soundwave, Barrakud… the list goes on.
