If, like us, you’ve spent lockdown wishing you were on a beach instead of your sofa, we know your next holiday can’t come soon enough. But what have the people of the UK got planned once it’s safe to travel again? We’ve done some research to find out. And, we’ve created a handy quiz to help you decide where to go on holiday after lockdown. Read on to find out more…
It’s official – being unable to travel has made us appreciate our holidays more than ever before. We can’t wait to stretch out on a sunlounger next to the pool, or sip a pre-dinner cocktail at sunset. And while visiting our favourite destinations is definitely on the cards, 25% of the 2,000 people we surveyed said they want to go somewhere new when they can travel again. Long-haul spots like the Caribbean, Mexico and Thailand all made the top 10, as did closer-to-home classics like Greece, Turkey and Spain.
The traditional beach holiday isn’t going anywhere. Our survey found that the majority of people want a seaside break when they can travel again, and that 23% of those people will be seeking sandy spots away from the crowds. Check out our list of the best quiet beaches in the world for some inspiration on where to go. And, it looks like lots of us will be booking luxury getaways, as 16% of those surveyed want to treat themselves to five-star accommodation after months in lockdown. City breaks are also set to be popular – we predict that holidaymakers will finally book trips to the places they’ve had on their must-visit lists for years.

Isolation has meant going months without seeing friends and family, and 74% of people said they’ve missed seeing their loved ones more than anything else. So, it’s not surprising that 20% of those surveyed said they’d be booking a break with their nearest and dearest as soon as they could. Big family getaways are going to be the ticket, and our TUI BLUE For Families hotels are a great option for post-lockdown holidays. Our research also shows that where we go will be influenced by the films and TV shows we’ve been watching together while in quarantine. So, if you’ve been binging boxsets where the action takes place abroad, it might be the destination of your first holiday after lockdown.
But, if you’re still looking for inspiration, we’ve created our lockdown list quiz. Based on your answers, we’ll give you a list of three destinations that are the perfect fit for the type of holidays you enjoy. So, whether you’re a sun worshipper or a history buff, we’ve got you covered.
