What is a Lakes & Mountains holiday?

“Local food, leisurely strolls and endless views”

Everything you need to know about Lakes & Mountains holidays…

  • What is a Lakes & Mountains holiday?

Our TUI Lakes & Mountains holidays let you see a different side of Europe. Savour la dolce vita in the Italian lakes, explore peaks and walking paths in Austria or Switzerland, and discover new cultures and unmissable scenery in Germany or Slovenia. Here are some of our favourite things about a Lakes & Mountains escape…

    Outstanding scenery

Our destinations are all about the pinch-me views. Choose a mountain holiday to stay in a traditional village like Mayrhofen or St Johann in Austria, where the buildings are made from wood and stone or decorated with painted frescoes. And you can get back to nature exploring the surrounding meadows and walking paths.

Or relax on a lakeshore, taking strolls along the waterfront promenades, popping into boutiques and stopping for coffee or ice cream in little cafés. Passenger ferries criss-cross the water too, so it’s easy to hop between different places. On Lake Garda, you can take boats to over a dozen towns and villages, from Riva in the north to Desenzano in the south, and soak up beautiful views all around you along the way.

    Local stays

Choose from our collection of handpicked places to stay, including traditional guesthouses, boutique hotels and family favourites. Many of them have been run by the same family for generations, and the staff are happy to share tips about the area to help you make the most of your time away.

Or if you’re looking for a little luxury, treat yourself to a TUI Platinum hotel – they’ve all been rated 4 or above, are in superb locations and have top-notch facilities like spas and fine-dining restaurants.

    Authentic experiences

Set your own pace as you explore towns brimming with history and culture. On lakes Como and Maggiore, wander around grand villas and gardens full of exotic plants and flowers. Or head to Lake Garda to see Roman ruins in Sirmione and admire the views from the hilltop Scaliger castle in Malcesine.

In Austria and Switzerland, you can ride cable cars and mountain railways up to soaring peaks and marvel at natural wonders. Don’t miss seeing the Krimml waterfalls, the tallest in Austria, or taking the train to the 3,463m-high Jungfraujoch (nicknamed the Top of Europe) from Grindelwald in Switzerland.

And why not spend a day in some of Europe’s most vibrant cities too? Venice, Verona and Salzburg are easy to reach by public transport from many of our resorts. Or let us organise everything and show you the must-see sights on one of our experiences.

While you’re exploring, get a taste of the local flavours. Europe dishes up a huge variety of authentic treats and tipples, like fresh fish, soft dumplings, crisp pizzas and regional wines.

Lots of towns also have their own festivities throughout the summer, from the Chiaretto Wine Festival on Lake Garda to the dumpling festival in St Johann – so you can get stuck in and celebrate like a local.
