Case Study: Chris Greenslade, Product Manager at Crystal Ski
To bring these job opportunities to life, we chatted to Chris Greenslade, who joined TUI Travel 4 years ago. Since then, he’s travelled the world and risen through the ranks from Holiday Advisor to Product Manager for Crystal Ski – including a spell as a Resort Rep in La Plagne, France. Here’s what he had to say about his day job…
Describe a typical day at work…
As soon as I get in, I catch up on emails, sales trading and overseas events. Then, depending on the day of the week, I might be doing anything from organising trips for the sales team to get to know our destinations, to writing creative content for the website or brochures. The list goes on, but basically behind everything we do is making sure we’re giving our customers the very best holidays we can.
Most memorable moment since you joined TUI?
When I worked as a Holiday Advisor in Fethiye, I helped run boat trips around the Turkish coast. Each week I held a pub quiz onboard for our guests – this was followed by a BBQ on the top deck and swimming in the crystal clear water. The people I met that summer couldn’t believe a job like that existed.
Biggest achievement to date?
Last year I worked in the recruitment department in the UK putting together the overseas operations team for Europe. Working a ski season is extremely popular, so we get a huge number of applications. The final team consists of hundreds of different people, ranging from Resort Managers to Chalet Hosts. After a gruelling selection process, standing with the new Crystal overseas team and waving them off on the start of their season felt like a massive achievement, especially since I was in their position just 4 years ago.
Most embarrassing moment at work?
This happened when I was working in Holiday Village Turkey. I was walking around the pool chatting to our guests, and unfortunately being a rep and standing near water makes you a prime target. It wasn’t long before I was ambushed and thrown in to the pool. My iPhone, cash, and all my paperwork was destroyed, but the worst part was the fact it was at the beginning of an 8-hour shift. With no spare clothes.
Sum up your time at TUI so far…
It’s been a whirlwind few years. I’ve travelled the world, and tried everything from scuba-diving to snowboarding off a mountain with a parachute. When I first started here I never dreamed I’d one day be helping to run a ski company – but, for me, that’s what working for TUI is all about. It makes the most of your best qualities, and allows you to pass your passion and enthusiasm for your job on to our guests.
