This Indian Ocean island has long been a favourite with couples, but it’s rapidly rising up the family travel charts, too. And that’s because it’s got so much on offer for active types – from quad biking tours to zip-lining adventures. Granted, it’s a long way to go if you’ve got really little ones. But for teens with some serious energy to burn, Mauritius takes some beating.
Try… the Hotel RIU Creole in Le Morne.
Italy has long been a destination loved by families, and particularly those with young kids as the locals love to make a fuss of them, and they’re welcome guests at restaurants. But the mainland’s smaller sibling, Sardinia, is set to step into the spotlight in 2016 thanks to recent celebrity endorsements from both Alex Polizzi and Gino D’Acampo. Just as on the mainland, kids are an integral part of life here. Plus, the flight time isn’t too much for toddlers.
Try… the Family Life Baia di Conte in Alghero.
Already a firm favourite with young families, Spain is set to get even hotter in 2016. That’s because PortAventura – Spain’s biggest theme park and one of its top tourist attractions – will be adding a second park next year. Ferrari Land will cover a massive 75,000 square metres and won’t be far off the Abu Dhabi original. Plus, it’ll be home to the highest rollercoaster in Europe.
Try… the Hotel Caribe, which is in PortAventura theme park itself.
If you want some serious sunshine but can’t face the thought of a long-haul flight, the Cape Verde islands might be just what the doctor ordered. The climate on these Atlantic islands is so good they’ve been dubbed the African Caribbean. Plus, the hotels here tend to be All Inclusive, which is always a massive plus for families as everything is laid on.
Try… the ClubHotel RIU Garopa on the island of Sal.
Yes, we know Florida’s Walt Disney World Resort is hardly a newbie on the list of places to take your kids to. But there are some new rides and attractions opening in 2016 that are set to make it even more popular, and they revolve around a certain twosome called Anna and Elsa. Frozen Sommerhaus will offer a meet and greet with the characters, and there’ll be a brand new Frozen Ever After ride in Epcot, too.
Try… Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, which is in Epcot.
