On Location – The Supermodel Island
Laura Weeden touches down in Mauritius and finds an island that’s prettier than Rosie Huntington-Whiteley…
Mauritius is one good-looking island. Seriously. When it came to handing out the beauty genes, this place must’ve been first, second and third in line. Take the view from the plane – from the outside in you’ve got squiggly coral reefs, blue lagoons, ribbons of ridiculously white sand, and an interior that packs in bottle-green forests and giant mountains.
Once you’ve touched down, most people make a beeline for the beaches.
And when they look like this, why wouldn’t you?
But there’s loads more to see here. And because the island’s pocket-sized – just 65 by 45 kilometres – it’s really easy to get out and explore.
Over the next few days I’ll be heading out to see just what this little place has to offer, and first up is a trip to an old sugar factory-come-museum. Is it wrong to admit that I’m most excited about the rum-tasting at the end?
