Brits have been zooming over to Spain’s Costa del Sol since the Sixties – and it’s still one of our top destinations. Next week, Catherine Roberts will be exploring the region in a series of reveal-all blog posts…

Supersized sandy beaches, months of sunshine, and the Rock of Gibraltar – most people reckon that’s the Costa del Sol in a nutshell.

But there’s more to the place than a long sandy coast and tan-boosting sunshine. Head to the star-studded hotels in Puerto Banus, and you could wind up sipping Moët by the pool. Then there’s the hillside town of Mijas, with its old town stacked with pretty chalk-white houses. Meanwhile, the beach resort of Fuengirola balances home-from-home British bars with tapas restaurants.

To top it all off, the oh-so-fine weather sticks around all year, so it’s great for a spot of winter sun.

Check in on Monday for the first installment of On Location in the Costa del Sol…
