Fresh from his Sunday-night return to the nation’s TV screens in The Hunt, Sir David Attenborough stepped aboard our first flight to Costa Rica on Monday… Or did he?
It’s fair to say that passengers on Thomson Airways’ inaugural direct flight to Costa Rica on Monday got a bit more than they bargained for. Particularly the ones who – like 4.4 million others – watched Sir David Attenborough’s new BBC wildlife documentary, The Hunt, the night before.
As holidaymakers boarded the 9.15am flight from London Gatwick to Liberia, they were greeted by the exotic sights and sounds of the rainforest, vividly brought to life by the Thomson 787 Dreamliner’s innovative sound and lighting system.
And once they’d sat down, a seemingly familiar voice began speaking over the PA system, giving passengers an insight into Costa Rica’s extraordinary wildlife. But while it seemed that wildlife expert Sir David Attenborough had joined them in the cabin, the mystery guest was soon revealed as actor and TV impressionist Terry Mynott – who gave a brilliant one-off performance in homage to the much loved naturalist.
Hitting social media with the hashtags #MadeMeSmile and #CostaRica, Terry’s hilarious 5-minute routine celebrated all things Costa Rican, including the country’s cuisine, friendly natives and of course, its wildlife.
“I always love doing a Sir David Attenborough impersonation,” said Terry. “His voice is instantly recognisable. It was a clever idea with Attenborough being synonymous with wildlife and nature, and to have some fun with the script and bring Costa Rica to life for the passengers on board. Performing live on the 787 Dreamliner was an experience I couldn’t turn down.”
