  • The Proof: Elf On The Shelf Really DOES Visit Santa Every Night

Do you find it hard to believe that Elf on the Shelf makes a quick dash to see Santa every night? Think again. We went undercover on a Thomson trip to Lapland and found out exactly what goes on…

If you’ve missed the whole Elf on the Shelf thing, we’ll assume you’ve been on holiday somewhere without WiFi for the past week. Because anyone who’s been in the country – nay, on the planet – will have noticed this little dude popping up on Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram.

For anyone who’s still not clear, the toy character comes with a book that was actually published 10 years ago, but seems to have taken the UK by storm this year. The elf – which can be a boy or girl – visits kids at home throughout December to check if they’re being naughty or nice. And part of the fun for children is finding their elf in a new hiding place – and funny set-up – each morning when he’s back from visiting Father Christmas.

But the story doesn’t mention what else he gets up to every night, so we decided to get the scoop by sneaking onto one of our fantastic day trips to Lapland. (Yep, you really can go there and back in just one day).

You might want to show these photos to your kids if they’re slipping onto the naughty list and need a bit of convincing…

Forget reindeer sleighs and fairy dust – this elf travels by plane. And he lives somewhere close to Manchester Airport…

    He also gets bored easily.

Colouring in on the plane. Wonder if there’s an elf on here? #elfontheshelf #elftravels A photo posted by Elf (@elftravels) on

    As in, really easily.

How did that happen? #elfontheshelf #elftravels

There seems to be plenty of time for a bit of schmoozing on the plane.

And the obligatory cockpit visit, of course.

    Yep, I went there… #elfontheshelf #elftravels #cockpit

Er, and some food after the flight. And then a food-induced snooze…

Oh. And a leisurely sleigh ride. Naturally.

    Interesting view. #elfontheshelf #elftravels

It’d be rude not to take a quick selfie with a really big elf, right?

And that’s it – there’s just enough time left to report back to Santa!

Our elf on the shelf bypassed the North Pole and travelled to Lapland to meet Santa. Fancy following in her footsteps? Take a look at our daytrips and short breaks here.
