Get the lowdown on showbiz life from our selection of famous guest speakers, aboard our cruises from the UK…

We’ve all got a hero. Someone that has achieved things we can only dream of… whether that’s scoring a goal in a World Cup final, having a seat to call their own in the House of Commons, or spending a drama-filled Christmas Day in the Queen Vic. Okay, so a punch-up in an East End pub may not be our ideal scenario, but each to their own. So, if any of these accolades strike a chord with you, then this selection from our amazing line-up of speakers aboard our cruises is bound to tickle your fancy. We get a sneaking suspicion from their CVs that these celebs have all got a juicy story or two to tell…

If you’re into politics… hear from Edwina Currie

Edwina Currie has caused a sensation in her time. That’s why we know she’ll give a fascinating insight into her varied career. Since ending her time as an MP, she’s written almost a dozen books – remember the revelations from Currie’s Diaries in 2002? – and had them critiqued in the press. And we mean critiqued. She’s embraced life in the public eye by appearing on a number of reality TV shows, such as Hell’s Kitchen, Come Dine with Me, and Strictly Come Dancing. Best not mention Strictly (Currie was given the boot in the first week). Or eggs. Listen to Edwina speak on our Icelandic Encounter cruise on Thomson Spirit14th May 2014.

If you love your soaps… hear from Billy Murray

Billy Murray is one scary dude. At least, he is when he’s under the guise of Johnny Allen in EastEnders. Put it this way, he makes Phil Mitchell look like Baldrick. Little wonder, since it was the notorious Krays who allegedly paid for him to go to acting school. Before Albert Square, he played the DS you loved to hate in The Bill – the other side of the thin blue line – and has also appeared in 80s and 90s favourites such as The Sweeney, Minder and Bergerac. Even though he scooped the prize of ‘Best Villain’ at the British Soap Awards in 2006, we challenge you to uncover his sensitive side. You can hear from Billy aboard our Baltic Beauties cruise on Thomson Spirit20th June 2014.

If you’re fanatical about sports… hear from Sir Geoff Hurst

Ask any footie-mad guy who their idol is, and 9 times of out 10 they’ll reply, “Sir Geoff Hurst.” The man is a living legend. He’s the first ever player to have scored a hat-trick in a World Cup final (who can forget the commentary, “They think it’s all over… it is now…”), putting 3 glorious goals past the German keeper to see England lift the Jules Rimet trophy for the first, and only, time. Gareth Southgate, we still blame you. His sporting prowess was officially recognised in 2004, when he was awarded a richly deserved knighthood. So, how does it feel to be national treasure? If you’re as intrigued as we are, catch Sir Geoff on our Fire & Ice cruise on Thomson Spirit26th August 2014.

Here’s the rest of our galaxy of stars joining us over the coming months…

Nobby Stiles – 10.08.13 One of the players in England’s 1966 winning World Cup Team and famous for his celebratory dance with the Jules Rimet trophy, Nobby’s moves are known around the world. Renowned for his no-nonsense tough tackling, this former Manchester United Defender recently scored an MBE for services to football.

Julie Peasgood – 17.09.13 English actress, television presenter, author and voice-over artist, Julie has her fingers in all of the pies. From the Royal Shakespeare Company and The Woolpack, to the voice of Bird’s Eye Peas, Julie is a regular chameleon and the ‘queen of ad voiceovers’. Thanks to her varied career, we’re certain Julie won’t be short of a story or two.

Humphrey Burton – 08.06.14 With 4 Emmys, 2 BAFTAs and a RTS Silver medal, Humphrey Burton is sure to be running out of space in his trophy cabinet. For almost half a century, Humphrey’s rubbed shoulders with some of the biggest names the arts industry including Ken Russell and Leonard Bernstein. Make a note not to miss Humphrey on our North Cape Discovery cruise.

Lisa Goddard – 27.06.14 For nearly 40 years, English actress Lisa Goddard has charmed TV audiences with her appearances on shows such as Midsummer Murders and Give Us A Clue. Having reached the top Down Under with Skippy the Kangaroo, we’re hopping with excitement for Lisa to join us aboard the Baltic Explorer.

Nick Baker – 12.07.14 Nick Baker’s love of all things weird and wild has led him from the coral reefs of Tasmania to the bustling rainforests of Madagascar. Now an anti-poaching campaigner, we’re bound to have a really wild time with Nick.

Eddie ’The Eagle’ Edwards – 03.08.14 Great Britain’s first ski jumper, Eddie became a world icon after his performance in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Turning his hand to diving, Eddie recently got the medal he deserved, winning Tom Daley’s reality TV show Splash!

Bob Champion – 15.09.14 Champion by name, champion by nature, MBE Bob smashed the Grand National in 1981 with his horse Aldaniti. Having won his own battle with cancer, Bob spends most of his time raising funds for his charity: The Bob Champion Cancer Trust. One of life’s winners, we bet this guest will be a clear favourite.
