If your holiday begins this weekend, you’re in for a right treat. The clocks going back in the UK means you’ll have one more hour of daylight (AKA blissful sunshine) than you would have back home to look forward to. We know that time is even more precious on holiday, and there’s nothing worse than arriving at your hotel after a long transfer at 5pm only to find the sun is sinking and the pool area closed and you've lost a day. Sigh.
Flying back home when the clocks go back? Great news. This means if you’re flying back from places like Spain, for example, your time in the air will decrease from just over two hours to one if you’re flying to London Gatwick Airport – which is ideal if you suffer from cabin fever or are travelling with restless little ones. OK – not literally – because obviously that only happens in the movies (Back To The Future, anyone?). But you will have gained back that hour to spend doing something better than travelling. Win.
It may seem like an obvious one, but the clocks going back by one hour on Sunday simply means you’ll get some extra time to chill out and just enjoy your holiday. So, that means you can spend more quality time relaxing with your nearest and dearest, wine and dine for longer, and stroll along the beach for longer – the choice is up to you.
If you plan on going clubbing until the early hours of the morning in Mykonos or Cancun, you'll get a whole extra hour to party when the clock hits 2am on Sunday 29th October. So, you can carry on celebrating with your friends and worry about the hangover later. We think that's worth raising a glass to, to be honest.
And sleep lovers can rejoice. If you're already on holiday when the clocks go back on Sunday 29th October, you can look forward to one more hour of sleep in that comfy, softer-than-usual king-size bed. And for the time-sensitive babies and toddlers, it can be helpful to delay their daytime naps, meals, and baths a few days before the clocks go back. You can but try, right?
