  • National Drink Wine Day: Our Best Wine-Tasting Tours

It’s officially National Drink Wine Day today. We’re celebrating with a tipple or 2 and a round-up of the most exciting wine-tasting tours in our holiday destinations…

    Jump aboard the wine train

    Where: Konavle in Dubrovnki, Croatia
Wine + lots of walking isn’t always the best idea. Luckily, on this innovative tour you’ll chug your way through Croatian vineyards on a little tourist train. This wine crawl takes you through four vineyards and wine cellars with additional stops at some local villages and flour mills. On the way you’ll pass through the green hills and valleys of Konavle’s beautiful countryside and see some traditional craft stalls.

    Visit Cliff Richard’s vineyard

    Where: Algarve, Portugal
Sir Cliff’s very own vineyard is called Adega do Cantor which translates to mean ‘winery of the singer’. The man himself can often be seen tending to his grapes, so keep an eye out for a cheery chap singing Summer Holiday when you’re exploring the estate. On your exclusive tour, you’ll stroll through the vineyard and get the chance to try reds and whites from his famous Vida Nova range which is matured and bottled on site.

Enjoy a volcano with your red

    Where: La Palma, Canary Islands
What better wine pairing than a volcano? If you’re heading on a Thomson Cruise, join a tour to La Caldera de Taburiente – a national park that’s actually the biggest volcanic crater in the world. You’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the valleys and peer down into the depths of dormant volcanoes before finishing up with a trip to a wine cellar and a few samples of the local wine.

    Try a traditional Greek winery

    Where: Santorini, Greece
This pretty Aegean isle claims to produce the best wine in Greece – so while you’re there, you might as well put this to the test. Pay a visit to the oldest winery on the island, the Boutari Winery, for a tour and tasting session. The island’s mineral-rich volcanic soil gives the wine a distinct aromatic character and the grapes used produce a particularly high alcohol content, too.
