Life Is A Rollercoaster
We take a closer look at Fairground Attraction, the all-singing, all-dancing show that’s dazzling audiences onboard our ships...
Earlier this year Thomson Cruises was voted number 1 for entertainment in the Cruisers’ Choice Awards. So we were excited to bag front-row seats for the premiere of Fairground Attraction, the newest show to feature on some of our ships, brought to us by our partners, Peel Entertainment.
So what can we tell you, without spoiling the surprise?
The story itself centres on Valerie and Johnny, who were once childhood sweethearts but who parted ways when Valerie hit the big-time. Fast-forward to the present and as Valerie gets ready for her US tour, Johnny tries to start a new life – and mend a broken heart – by running away to the fair.
That’s where one of the show’s most exciting features comes in. There’s a massive fairground scene onstage throughout the performance. The show’s designer called it ‘the most ambitious set we have ever put on a ship’, and he’s not exaggerating. You can expect a life-sized moving dodgem car, a real spinning waltzer, and a giant helter-skelter.
Factor in some incredible props, flashing neon hula-hoops and sculptural cupcake costumes, and you get the idea – this is one show you’re not going to forget in a hurry. If you fancy a sneak peek, you can watch a timelapse video of the technical team in action as they construct the set.
As for the music, Fairground Attraction has a huge range of songs – from 50s Jukebox classics to modern chart toppers, Meatloaf to CeeLo Green – so there’s something for everyone to sing along to.
The show is due to run onboard Thomson Celebration until April 2014 and on Thomson Spirit until December 2013. And with more highs and lows that a big dipper (sorry, couldn’t resist), we think it’ll be another winner.
