Holidays are all about experiences – and what better way to get to know a destination than with an excursion? Below you’ll find the world’s best days out, from feeding sea turtles in Turkey to swimming under the Northern Lights in Iceland and visiting UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Mexico. So, whether you’re a solo traveller or looking to explore with a small group, we’ve got plenty to choose from. Travel plans – sorted.
Excursion: Gems of the Amalfi Coast
Best bits: Head to Italy’s world-famous coastline and explore Postiano and its colourful cliffside houses, the old-world village of Pontone and the rambling streets of Ravello.
Includes: Transport, guide and lunch.
Excursion: Port Antonio and Blue Lagoon
Best bits: Visit a banana plantation, shop at the colour-popping Port Antonio market, swim around Monkey Island and relax on Frenchman’s Cove which is considered one of the top beaches in the world. There’ll be a chance to swim alongside the Caribbean’s best marine life and coral reefs on this trip too, with plenty of snorkelling stops.
Includes: Transport, guide and lunch.
Excusion: Mostar Full Day Tour
Best bits: Cross the border into Bosnia and Herzegovina and spot fairy tale minarets, ancient stone houses and cobbled bazaars. You’ll also visit picture-perfect Stari Most Bridge, perched over the River Neretva.
Includes: Transport, guide and water or juice.
Excursion: Adrenaline
Best bits: Zip through a protected rainforest reserve and fly above the canopies to bag some of the best views on the island. Keep an eye out for plenty of wildlife as you soar above the national park, including St Lucia’s amazon parrot, cloaked by red, blue, green and yellow feathers.
Includes: Guide, zip line course, transport and water or juice.
Excursion: Blue Lagoon Evening Tour
Best bits: Let off some steam with an evening excursion to the world’s best natural spa – the Blue Lagoon. Soak in the 37°C milky blue waters, leave any knots behind at the massage waterfall and head to the swim-up bar for a glass of bubbly under the stars. It’s often quieter in the evenings and, better yet, you might even spot the Northern Lights if you’re lucky.
Includes: Transport, entrance to the Blue Lagoon.
Excursion: Chichen Itza
Best bits: Journey deep into the underworld at Zazil Tunich cenote, gaze up at the Kukulkan Pyramid, Temple of the Warriors and Temple of the Jaguars and hear ancient stories of Mayan history, culture and legends. You’ll also head to a Mayan village where you can watch locals weaving hammocks over lunch.
Includes: Transport, guide and lunch.
Excursion: Forest Explorer
Best bits: Spend a night in the heart of Costa Rica’s rainforest, walk the Monteverde sky bridges, visit a hummingbird sanctuary and take a tour of the coffee and sugar plantations.
Includes: One night’s accommodation, three meals and soft drinks, entrance fees and transport.
Excursion: Discover Dalyan
Best bits: Knock years off your skin as you plunge into therapeutic mud baths, cruise along the Dalyan River past eerie Rock Tombs from 400BC, and – if you’re lucky – share a fresh crab lunch with the Dalyan river’s resident loggerhead turtles.
Includes: River cruise, entrance to mud baths, lunch and transport.
