Planning to escape those inevitable April showers? We don’t blame you. This drizzly spring month might be a washout in the UK, but it’s a great time to head abroad. Temperatures are heating up across Europe, and getting particularly hot in the Caribbean. And, along with getting your dose of vitamin D, there are events like the Songkran festival in Thailand and Aruba’s very own Dutch-inspired Kings Day festival to get involved in, too. To help you book that holiday, we reveal where you can expect the best weather in April…
You don’t have to travel halfway across the globe for some springtime sunshine. Temperatures in the Algarve reach highs of 23C, with nine hours of sunshine, so you’ll be warm enough to switch between sunbathing, sightseeing and a spot of golf. The Algarve, in the south of Portugal, is handily sheltered from wind and rain by the mountains in the north, so you can expect warmer and drier weather here. If you want to get away from it all, pick Iberostar Selection Lagos Algarve as your base. This place overlooks the beach and boasts two pools and a luxury spa with treatments based on ancient Chinese therapies.

Aruba's endless swathes of sand make it the perfect place for a relaxing break – especially when the mercury hits highs of 32C. Temperatures in April might be high and dry, but the gentle trade winds keep you cool when you’re out and about. It's full of little surprises, too. At the 40-acre Renaissance Aruba Resort & Casino in Oranjestad you’ll find a private island where you can paddle with flamingos (nope, we’re not joking).
The Dutch-influenced island also celebrates its own special Caribbean version of the Netherland's King’s Day every April, too. So if you’re there on April 27th, you can expect street parties, parades and special activities, plus Dutch-inspired King’s Day menus in Oranjestad’s restaurants.

Thailand's hottest season runs from January until April, so you’re pretty much guaranteed sunshine-filled days if you travel during this time. It’s also the best time for exploring those World Heritage Sites, like the stunning Similan Islands, which are open from November until the end of April. Temperatures in this springtime month peak at a super-toasty 33C, but luckily, there’s the Songkran festival to keep you cool. This unique event runs every April, and involves a huge water fight where locals and tourists soak each other with balloons and water pistols. Stay in Phuket or Khao Lak to be right in the heart of the action, and to have easy access to the Similan Islands, too.

The Sunshine State never gets particularly cold, so you can experience Orlando’s theme parks all year round. However, in April, while temperatures are nice and hot, rainy season hasn’t kicked in. So, you won’t have to plan your day around those bursts of rain, and the rides will stay open when the sun’s out. Miami also enjoys highs of 26C, which is the perfect temperature for spending time on Miami Beach and exploring the murals of Wynwood’s art district.

Morocco enjoys a warm average temperature of 19C in April, with highs reaching a peak of 27C. The landscape of this west African country is particularly lush and green from March until May – making it the ideal time for exploring Agadir and the Atlas Mountains. If you’re heading to Marrakech, it won’t be too hot to explore the souks and famous market square. By day, you can browse the stalls and haggle for bargains, and by night, you can watch street performers and snake charmers, and try some delicious Moroccan cuisine. The TUI BLUE Medina Gardens is just five minutes’ away from the souks, and blends original Arabic features with a contemporary style.
