RIU Tequila

My boyfriend and I spent a week at the RIU Tequila... part of our stay was with family, and the other part solo adventure...here are my thoughts, as they do differ slightly from other reviews that we checked out prior to choosing our vacation here: Beach - absolutely beautiful Pool - wonderfully refreshing and well kept Staff - friendly and so hard working Accommodation - recently updated and generally pleasant (although you can hear everything from outside your room door... we got the fortune of listening to those argue one day, and another trying to lock down business sales daily- he was our alarm clock 🙂) Drinks - inconsistent (the coffee is best in their lobby bar area and isn’t great -looks gray when adding milk- in their Buffett) Food - Basic and disappointing.. We have been fortunate to never have food related issues on vacation thus far, and we are not picky, but RIU must do better in this area, especially with their 4.5 star rating... food is not well marked, areas were unkept, items were made inconsistent day to day, and the food was generally over processed. Breakfast was our preferred meal of the day; desserts, and bread were good. 24 hour food option for late night is repulsive- we tried this only the night of our check in, due to the time of our arrival at the resort, and we do not recommend. Sunwing Vacation Tour- we waited over 45 minutes to speak to a rep, when we were told to arrive between 10-12pm for flight and tour information... this gentleman remained busy, on his phone, and with a couple... he sort of blew us off- many people (at least 10) dropped their card off, and left as a result of this. Disappointing. TUI reps were hustling and focused on all of their guests, which was nice to see. Unfortunately, no day trips for us this time, so I can’t speak to this area of a lot of southern vacations... WIFi - included and works basically everywhere. Evening entertainment - enjoyed their theme nights.. they work hard and we enjoyed the shows we did see. Some shows should come with a disclaimer, for the younger ones, prior to the shows commencement (specifically The Horror Show night). 🙂 Hope this helps! Overall - we did enjoy ourselves... I mean who wouldn’t in such a beautiful setting.. RIU please work on your food quality and drink consistency. Cheers!

I'm a solo mom with 2 young boys (age 11 and 8) and was a bit reluctant to take a trip on our own for the first time! The entire trip was fabulous - my boys thoroughly enjoyed the resort and all that it had to offer! POOLS: We enjoyed all the pools including the kids pool! BEACH: Was windy so the waves were a bit rough but the boys enjoyed catching the waves! FOOD: We thoroughly enjoyed the food at the buffets and all the restaurants and there was great variety and always many options! The breakfast buffet was at the main buffet every morning, the Grill Bar we regularly enjoyed during lunch and dinner options were Asian, Italian and Steakhouse restaurants as well as the Mexican restaurant which we enjoyed at the Riu Yucatan. ROOM; Room was very spacious, we had a King Size bed and a pull out couch, lots of drawer space, fridge - which was always stocked, and the room was always clean! SERVICE: Service was always very consistent - friendly staff from the reception staff, bar staff, etc. EXCURSION: I highly recommend this!!!!! We booked a Dolphin Discovery Adventure excursion through Sunwing's rep, Adolfo who was extremely friendly and helpful in booking the excursion for us - my boys and I loved it - would recommend this excursion no hesitation! They picked us up, dropped us off, staff at the Dolphin discovery was amazing!!! AMAZING! Without sounding like a cliche, this trip was perfect! We felt relaxed, exhilarated, extremely happy and safe the entire week :)

Let's start with why Playacar? Just south of where Playa Del Carmen ends the gated community of Playacar begins. Playacar is a much quieter, calmer experience than neighboring Playa Del Carmen. You won't find near as many shops and restaurants but you will find a small selection of shops in the central part of Playacar along with many vacation properties and several all inclusive resorts. Now Hotel Riu Tequila, one of 6 Riu resorts in Playa, is a very recently renovated and remodeled property with a very modern design. The Riu Tequila does not sit on the beach but shares an amazing pool and beach area with the Riu Yucatan via a walkway, also serviced by shuttle. It's a 10 min walk to the beach area or you can enjoy the multiple pools in the center of the Riu Tequila complex. One of the things you will enjoy about the Riu Tequila is the configuration for the main building. All of the bars, the night club, the entertainment stage, the coffee shop/sports bar, and restaurants are all located in the main building. You can hang out in the evening and watch a show, or people, while waiting for you table at the steak house. Having stayed here twice now and after multiple trips to Mexico I can say that the staff here really is exceptional and sets is apart. We have found them friendly and eager to take care of your needs. Would highly recommend and will visit again.
