La Romana Port holidays
Jump to sections
La Romana Port holidays put you on the palm-fringed banks of an estuary, within throwing distance of a sandy beach and a cave-dotted national park.
Time to explore
La Romana Port is pinned to an estuary that weaves from the Caribbean Sea into the south-eastern coast of the Dominican Republic. The port itself is small – in fact, it’s more a cruise drop-off point between the sugar cane town of La Romana and the resort village of Casa de Campo. The benefit of holidays here is that you’ve got lots of time to do what cruise passengers can usually do in one day.
Camera-ready landmarks
The port’s got a handful of stand-out features that are good for a bit of sightseeing. Like its pretty marina, which was built to look like the pastel-coloured fishing village of Portofino on the Italian Riviera. And the village of Altos de Chavon, designed to resemble an old Spanish town. Both places have lots of swanky restaurants and a good collection of shops.
Further afield
Its location is what gives La Romana Port its main appeal. It’s a few minutes’ drive from a pretty beach called Minitas, which serves up exactly what you’d expect from a Caribbean patch of sand. And popular Punta Cana’s just under an hour’s drive east. Here, day-long shopping sprees are easy to come by.
