The Southsea Grand Khao Lak lines up a smart-looking pool area and a peaceful location just moments from the beach.
This place has got simple chic down to a T. The open-air lobby features natural, rough-cut marble flooring and simple, dark-wood furniture. Bedrooms, meanwhile, are dressed in muted tones of cool grey and ochre.
The property has clinched a sleepy spot, right on a long, golden strip of sand. It’s a 20-minute bus ride to the centre of Khao Lak, and the hotel puts on a shuttle if you want to go into town.

We have just arrived home after spending two glorious weeks in Thailand. We stayed the whole 2 weeks at the The Grand Southsea Khao Lak and loved it. We were upgraded to another room after arriving a day before but this was not a problem. The rooms were spacious and very clean and the staff worked really hard to keep the rooms and grounds clean and tidy. Mr Tee was an absolute legend making sure our needs and our stay was just perfect. He and the all the staff did their very best to help even if the language barrier was a little difficult at times. Breakfast was really nice with a good choice to eat but the option to have a self serve on the tea, coffee and juice would have been an easier and faster option then having to wait for the staff to bring it all to your table. Once the breakfast area got really busy with guests the wait for food and drinks really suffered. The staff always managed with a smile and worked really hard to make sure you were always happy. The beach was just across the little lane in front of the hotel and we spent many a day enjoying the beautiful sea and cocktails at Memories beach resort bar a little walk up the beach. Mostly on their happy hour and watching the beautiful sunsets. They were just lovely. Khoa lak town was a good 15 to 20 minutes drive away and the taxis charged 300 Bart one way or 500 Bart to come back on the same taxi. This can be costly so we chose to hire a scooter for the holiday duration and we went to many local tourist spots and other beautiful beaches. The roads were not too busy as long as you drive carefully. The area of the hotel was very quiet with a few restaurants and bars in walking distance that offered fabulous food and drinks all at reasonable prices. The hotel caters for many Chinese guests but they did not seem to stay for long before moving on. I would recommend this hotel to stay if you want to enjoy the peace and quiet and be truly spoilt by the lovely genuine people that work hard to keep this hotel running as smooth as possible. Thank you all. We were disappointed with the Tui or Thomson representative Because we attempted twice to meet him for a welcome meeting and on both occasions he failed to show but this we will take up with the holiday company. Felt deserted and understaffed
Lots of Chinese tour groups stopped here, but we felt like one of the only non-group guests in a relatively huge resort. Staff were friendly enough but didn't seem empowered to make useful decisions. Electricity was limited during our stay due to some power line repair on the main road, but no one was trying to be creative is making things more comfortable. Western breakfast was a disaster. Thai breakfast was better. The rooms are a bit small for what's advertised, but modern and comfortable enough. Location is good. A nice hotel but felt like bad value. More

In need of maintenance and renovation
The location itself is great, though I wouldn't be bothered about anything that says "sea view" since its tucked behind the palms and across a small road from the beach. The staff are very friendly when you talk to them but there seems to be a lack of them. That said when we spent time around the pool and wanted a drink I went looking for someone and most of the time they were sat around having a laugh with the kitchen staff. Even whilst there was dirty glasses and plates left around the pool side. The food itself was good if you were ordering something Thai but when we ordered room service it was never what we actually ordered. I much preferred going up the road to the restaurants or down the beach to Memories as the food was better and cheaper. My main issue with the hotel is the state of the place. Thomsons describe it as having stylish chic down to a T which basically is untrue. If your idea of chic is where the nose of the steps are missing, broken windows along the pathways, light fittings falling off the walls, old parasols held down by breeze blocks and the decking around pool breaking under your feet then you and I have very different ideas of what chic means.More
