Bangkok is a standout city for many reasons, impressive temples, bustling night markets - and then there’s the food. Here blogger Amy Morgan from Toothbrush Travels takes us on a special tour of her favourite Bangkok eateries and reveals why she can’t get enough of Thailand’s capital city.
Bangkok is a city you can fall in love with and never pinpoint exactly why. It’s filled with life, contrasts and an energy that’s very palpable.
Chaos feels calming here, and the everlasting noise of traffic serves as a soundtrack, broken only by the sound of chatter on its restaurant-lined streets.
It’s a city where your preconceptions vanish and reality surpasses both your expectations and your senses.
It also has a food scene that’s so diverse that I can almost guarantee, if you happened to catch the scent of freshly ground chillies and aromatic spices, you'd walk miles just to seek the source’s location.
Yet despite its lure, many tend to treat Bangkok as a stopover rather than a destination and instead focus their attentions on Thailand’s golden beaches and lush jungles.
But to visit the country and skip Bangkok would be a mistake.
This is one of my favourite spots in Bangkok. It’s located in the lesser known area of Bang Rak and is one of the best places you can go to for duck.
The third generation proprietors of Boonsap Desserts still work with the same delicious recipes their great-grandmother used. Try the Thai custard or mango sticky rice, and thank me later.
This eatery prides itself on working with local farmers and is armed with outstanding flavours and an ever-changing menu. The chefs at Bo.Lan will make you reassess everything you thought you knew about Thai food.
Seven Spoons is one of Bangkok’s top fine dining restaurants and also one of my personal favourites. They serve an array of modern food with interesting flavour combinations and the best desserts.
Khaosan Road is the ultimate backpacker’s paradise of Thailand and has every type of Thai cuisine on offer. Whether you want Pad Thai, green curry, or the ever special coconut ice cream, you’ll find it all here.
