Langkawi holidays pull together island-hopping boat tours, lazy days on cloud-white beaches, and jungle-coated landscapes.
Langkawi is one of 99 limestone islands – the islet cluster’s got the same name and has a bit of a Halong Bay vibe. This particular island is one of Malaysia’s most up-and-coming holiday destinations – but it hasn’t reached peak tourist levels yet, with many of its rainforests and beaches still untouched. Our holidays take you to the west coast, where teal-coloured waters roll out onto powder-fine sand.
In Langkawi, the weekend falls on Fridays and Saturdays, with many businesses closed on Fridays instead of Sundays. Hit the beach while the shops are closed. Like Pantai Cenang Beach – a popular two-kilometre stretch of bone-white sand. It’s a popular spot, but its size means you don’t have to compete for towel space.
After its beaches, the island’s biggest draw is the natural scenery. We’re talking crashing waterfalls in leafy thickets, mangrove forests that you can navigate by boat, and cave systems that tunnel their way into the limestone. The wildlife’s got its perks, too. Look out for two types of monkeys on the island – long-tailed macaques and tiny dusky leaf monkeys.
