You’ll get to explore the ancient site of Solin on this tour. Known as ‘Salona’ back in the 3rd and 4th centuries, it was once a thriving Roman city housing around 40,000 residents. Today, it’s brimming with ruins – archaeologists have uncovered remains of religious temples, early Christian churches, burial grounds and Roman baths. You can also see the remnants of an amphitheatre, which was once used for bloody gladiatorial contests. You’ll have plenty of time to wander around the ruins, before visiting Split’s old town. Underneath the sea of terracotta rooftops is a maze of stone buildings, built around a 4th-century Roman palace. You’ll enjoy a walking tour of the cobbled streets, delving into the palace’s well-preserved cellars, and checking out the Cathedral of St Duje along the way. Other camera-worthy sights include the Temple of Jupiter, the Golden and Silver Gates, and busy Peristyle Square.
