This train ride chugs along at a gentle pace, so there’s plenty of time to soak up the views of Barbados’ tropical landscape. The heritage railway route’s one of the newest attractions on the island, after it was finished in late 2018. After you arrive at St Nicholas Abbey, you’ll board the train and set out across the Caribbean countryside. The route’s shaped like a balloon on a string, and takes around 45 minutes from start to finish. Keep an eye out for migratory birds in the woodland around the St Nicholas Abbey Great House. Have a camera ready at Cherry Tree Hill, too – it’s one of the island’s standout beauty spots, with sweeping vistas of the east coast. After your return journey, there’ll be time to visit the gift shop or café, before heading back to port.
