This tour ticks off two of Italy’s most popular historical sites, Pompeii and Herculaneum. Both of them were frozen in time when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79AD. Starting off at the port, you’ll travel by coach to your first stop at Pompeii. It’s the larger of the two, and used to be home to over 20,000 people. Your guide will walk you through the streets, weaving past preserved houses, temples and markets. Body casts are placed around the city, too, giving an insight into what people’s final moments looked like. Afterwards, you’ll travel down the coast to see Herculaneum. Unlike Pompeii, the buildings in this smaller town were protected by mud near the waterfront, so a lot of details, like painted walls and detailed pieces of woodwork were left standing. On your guided stroll, you’ll see it all, including the remains of 300 skeletons of people who tried to escape the toxic gas that engulfed the town. When you’re done here, you’ll then head back to the port.
