You’ll see Thailand’s old and new sides on this tour. First, you’ll visit Wat Yansangwararam. Set in 145 acres of countryside, this huge complex features temples, manicured gardens and a lake. But the buildings aren’t as traditionally Thai as you’d expect. They’re built in a range of around-the-world styles, taking inspiration from India, Japan, Switzerland and China. Take the Viharn Sien, for instance – an impressive, three-storey temple with a bulging collection of artefacts donated by the Chinese government. After you’ve taken in the main sights, you’ll head towards Thailand’s future on a trip to the Silver Lake Vineyard. You might not associate the country with wine, but this place is making strides with its Shiraz and Chenin Blanc grapes. You’ll get to take a tram tour of the vineyards, before sitting down for a tasting. But that’s not the only appeal – it’s surrounded by hills, a lake and the famous carved Buddha Mountain.
You’ll need to dress modestly when visiting religious sites. Knees and shoulders need to be covered, you’ll also need to take off your shoes before entering the temples. The journey time is approximately 45 minutes each way.
