Porto Venere’s like a watercolour painting brought to life, and this tour gets you right into the heart of the seaside town. It’s a tricky place to reach if you’re going under your own steam, so we do all of the leg work to make things hassle-free. You’ll board a boat to sail into the town’s pretty harbour. A collar of multi-coloured apartments edges up to the water, and an assortment of yachts, catamarans and fishing boats bob beside the promenade. Your guide will kick off the tour with a stroll along a shopping street that’s tailor-made for fashionistas. The Church of St Peter, set on a panoramic headland, is next on the agenda. Then you’ll wander along the waterside Calata Doria promenade, where the pick-and-mix-coloured fortress houses tower above you. You’ll get a couple of hours to explore under your own steam, so there’s time to tick off the San Lorenzo Church, Via Capellini - AKA, the town’s main street – and the historic Doria Castle.
- SUITABILITY Moderate physical activity.
