You’ll board a much smaller boat today for a cruise of Tromso’s surrounding waterways. There’s no better way to explore the fjords and their islands than on a RIB boat. To kick things off, your rudder will steer towards Ryøya Island. You won’t be stopping here, but you can get a good look at the herd of wild musk oxen, which call the place home. It won’t take you long to realise how these Arctic animals survive – their coat resembles a furry rug. They even made it through the Ice Age, unlike their fellow fur-coated woolly mammoths. Then it’s on to Håkøya Island, where you’ll hear the story of Tirpitz – a German battleship that was sunk by British bombers here during the Second World War. You can see the memorial to the 1,200 fallen soldiers on the island. After, you’ll start your ride back to the port.
