This excursion’s designed to spark your imagination and send a shiver down your spine. Our first stop is the thought-provoking Lindholm Hoeje, one of Scandinavia’s best-preserved Viking burial sites where hundreds of stone circles mark the tombs. The onsite museum will reveal how the Viking people lived, worked and died through reconstructions and exhibitions. A half-hour drive away is Voergaard Castle, where we’ll explore the dark past this remarkable Renaissance manor house conceals behind its wide moat. Pause to photograph the beautiful façade as we arrive. Led by a guide you’ll learn about the castle’s hidden depths, including the renowned Rosedonten dungeon, an airless and pitch black ‘room’ so compact that an adult man can neither stand upright nor lie down stretched out. Leaving the shadows, we’ll also see Denmark’s largest private art collection, which includes objects such as Napoleon’s dinner set and the private belongings of Marie Antoinette. Our tour will then lead us to the castle gardens, before we begin our journey back through the countryside to the pier.
