On this day out, you’ll head up to Slovenia for a tour of Postojna – one of the country’s biggest caves. It’s about two hours and 15 minutes’ drive from Rijeka, but you’ll stop en route for a photo opportunity at Predjama Castle – a gothic-style place built into a cave mouth. Once you get to Postojna, you’ll have a bit of free time before hopping aboard a little electric train for a tour around the caverns. The temperature inside is around 8 degrees, so bring a jumper and jacket with you. Each cave has a different feel, and your tour will take in the stalactite-studded Gothic Hall, the soot-lined Upturned Ship, and the huge Conference Hall, which regularly hosts dances and concerts.
The drive to Postojna from Rijeka takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
