Bozcaada is an island around 250 miles from Istanbul, and it’s defined by lavender fields, terracotta-roofed townhouses, and cobbled alleyways. This trip gives you a great introduction to some of the region’s most famous sights. You’ll tour the castle, which was passed down through the Phoenicians, the Genoese, the Byzantines, and the Ottomans. It looks spectacular come nightfall, when it’s lit up. And the views from here are incredible – locals regularly huddle on the surrounding hillside and watch the sun go down. Alabey Mosque is also on the agenda, a sanctuary that’s thought to date back to 1700. You’ll stop by Kemisis Teodoku Church, too, the only religious building dedicated to the isle’s Orthodox people. Your guided tour is wrapped up at an ancient winery, where you’ll be able to sample wines produced in the area. Afterwards, you’re free to pick your own path around the place.
