With holidays to Kissimmee, you get the best of both worlds. You're close to the thrills and spills of Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort™, but far enough away when you want a slice of peace and quiet.
Kissimmee is set on the outskirts of Orlando, so has more of a neighbourhood feel than the city itself. It’s a popular spot for families that want a quiet spot to stay, without being too far from the Sunshine State’s major attractions. Things are mostly residential, but the town centre’s got an authentic American feel. Main Street is lined with diners, bakeries and flag-fronted stores, and feels almost like a step back in time.
The lion’s share of properties around here are villas, and they’re all tailor-made for families. The solo ones often come with private pools, big kitchens and plenty of rooms. Or, you can opt for one that’s part of a villa complex. These usually have better shared facilities, like clubhouses, splashparks and restaurants. The gaps in between are filled by big hotels, so you’re spoiled for choice.
Ready for rides
A short drive from Kissimmee gets you to the southern reaches of Orlando, where Walt Disney World Resort resides. It takes just over 20 minutes to drive it, and that gets you to the likes of Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Add an extra 10 minutes to your journey, and you’ll reach Universal Orlando Resort and restaurant-packed International Drive.
Kissimmee’s also well placed for jaunts to Florida’s best beaches. On the east coast, the likes of Daytona Beach and Cocoa Beach are just over an hour’s drive along the freeway. They’re neighbours with the Kennedy Space Center, too, so you can get your rocket fix. In the other direction, award-winning strips of sand like Clearwater and St Pete are double the distance, but the sugar-white sands are worth the mileage.
