With holidays to Playa de la Arena you get a Blue Flag beach, top walking territory and volcanic scenery – all from a quiet Tenerife base.
Playa De La Arena
Sunny Tenerife is perhaps the most famous and best loved of the Canary Islands – and with resorts like Playa de la Arena to choose from, it’s no surprise. Whether you arrive by cruise ship or plane, holidays here are a dream come true.
Resting on the west coast
Head to Tenerife’s northwestern coast and you’ll find Playa de la Arena. Situated just south of Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago, this is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kind of town. Boasting a Blue Flag beach and an assortment of hotels and restaurants, the town has all the fixings of your typical resort – but life here just moves at a slower pace. With secluded beauty spots on your doorstep you’ll feel like you’ve escaped to a hidden corner of paradise.
Black sand and blue water
If there’s one thing the Canaries are famous for it’s their volcanic beaches. The deep, soft stretch of charcoal sand at Playa de la Arena is widely considered to be one of the finest on the entire island. And because this resort is that bit quieter than its neighbours, you shouldn’t have to jostle for room. Set in a sheltered cove, and looking out at craggy mountain scenery, it makes for a spectacular sunbathing spot.
Boasting volcanic rock formations, sheltered coves and quiet woods, the natural areas surrounding Playa de la Arena are awaiting your discovery. Start with the Vaca Cave, a beautiful turquoise pool ringed by rocks. Afterwards head north to Los Gigantes where you can admire the sheer cliffs of the Teno Mountains, rearing out over the water and dominating the skyline. The northwestern region of Tenerife is also home to the massive Mount Teide volcano and its surrounding national park.
Just over an hour from Tenerife’s lively capital of Santa Cruz is Playa de la Arena. Home to several excellent museums and plenty of shops and restaurants, it’s the perfect place to immerse yourself in Canarian culture. Closer to Playa de la Arena you’ll find Los Cristianos. Here you'll find a large holiday resort with lovely beaches, and, nestling in the foothills of Mount Teide, the pine-studded village of Vilaflor.
