La Palma gets around 10 hours of sunshine a day in the summertime, and from June through to August the mercury can sky rocket up to about 30°C. The heat is manageable, though, thanks to the trade winds that cool the coast. In winter, the sun tends to shine rather than pummel, making it a popular time of year for ramblers.

Health & Safety

You should take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance to cover you while you’re away. It’s also a good idea to get a European Health Insurance Card – or EHIC – before leaving the UK. Though it’s not a substitute for travel insurance, it entitles you to emergency medical treatment on the same terms as Spanish nationals. It won’t, however, cover you for medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment. For the latest health and safety information, visit
