Old Time Elegance - Second Visit
A place with a pleasant ambience, class and professional staff. Beautiful location by the dunes and a forty minutes leisurely walk to the beach, either through the dunes or via the promenade. Due to a French air traffic controllers strike, the flight arrived later than scheduled and I arrived at the hotel in the early hours of the morning. I had booked a single room but was upgraded to a double room. I was pleased about that, although the position of the room meant that there was no sun in the morning or the evening. I felt I couldn't say anything, given the upgrade, but wouldn't have been happy with the room's location had I paid for the sole use of a double room. Very civilised dining - no scramble for tables or pushing and shoving. Food very good and varied, although I was taken aback to find a large chunk of meat in the watercress soup. I wasn't expecting that! Entertainment is low key and is only advertised on the touch screen in the reception area. I really enjoyed the tribute act to The Jersey Boys. First class act. Guests were mostly retired folk and predominantly German. I spoke to a British couple who said that they have been coming twice a year for 20 years. Some people stay for five or six weeks. So they must like it! Three TUI reps were at their desks for much of the time. I didn't see any other tour operators represented. I asked about the rumours of a refurbishment. Possibly next year (2020) to become a five star hotel. I hope they don't spoil the colonial character of the place. Bathrooms do need updating (my showering experience was not altogether pleasant with alternate scalding hot and freezing cold water) and the 'wellness centre' is tired and seemed not to be used much (but then the weather was too good for wanting to be indoors). For a quiet restful lazy holiday, this is the hotel for you.More

Our sixth stay here
The hotel was as good as ever ! The rooms, well furnished and cleaned every day although the bathrooms could now do with a bit of updating. The pools are very well maintained and a pleasure to use. The food is as it always is..... excellent with the bonus of the Krystal dining room where the food and service equal to any you will find in the Canaries and all included in the cost of your stay !!! However as good as the Riu Palace Maspalomas is, it's shining light is the staff ! From the room maids to the bar staff, every one a professional ! If the building was falling apart we would still come back because of them. The entertainment was very mixed as lots of nationalities have to be catered for. On the terrace prior to dinner there are musicians playing standards. We especially enjoyed Jozef Sarkozi and the resident band Azzurro. Most of the guests have been here many times before and if you take a holiday here you will very quickly understand why.More
Style and Elegance that did not disappoint
On my first trip to Playa del Ingles, where the hotel now stands was a site. Upon my return, after six years, there was this impressive hotel. I have longed to stay there ever since. It did not disappoint; indeed it delivered beyond my expectations. From the time of our arrival (late evening) courteous staff who genuinely care about the service they provide ensured that this was one of the best holidays we have had in the Canary Islands. The hotel has an elegant style. It is beautifully situated at the southern most point of the town with a view over the dunes to the sea. On the ground floor there are abundant places to sit and relax, a comfortable and (in the evening) lively bar and a large and well laid out restaurant. Most of the rooms have an aspect towards one of two pool/gardens and all see the sun at some part of the day and on the upper floors, a view over the dunes. Our room was a suite, with a small hall and sitting room in addition to the bedroom and bathroom (with separate lavatory). It was spotlessly clean, well maintained and comfortable. Two visits by housekeeping (including one in the evening to turn down the bed). There is an ample balcony to relax on with loungers. There was plenty of wardrobe/ cupboard space. There are two pools set in well maintained gardens and plenty of space to enjoy the sun. In addition there are two spa areas, a pool bar/café and a viewing area over the dunes. Although breakfast can be delivered to the room, we preferred to go to the buffet breakfast in the restaurant and eat on the verandah (sometimes a wait for tables there but there is plenty of space in the restaurant). There is so much variety from a full cooked breakfast, fruit and fruit juices, cooked meats and cheeses, a huge variety of bread and rolls and a table where you can make your own muesli. You can even indulge in early morning bubbles. The friendly waiting staff are on hand to provide tea or coffee and to promptly clear the tables for the next guests. For dinner you are allocated a table for your stay and one of two sittings (both can be changed). A menu shows what is available and this changes daily but there is usually much more available. There is always Canarian food on offer and some nights have a themed offering. It is a buffet service which means you can pick and choose from the wide range on offer or stick to the course as set. Some of the food is cooked in front of you by the chefs. Waiting staff are on hand to help, take your wine order and clear the table as you go. They are attentive without being intrusive and there is no urgency to move you on. The food is well prepared, full of flavour and interesting and so much variety. As an alternative, there is the Krystal Restaurant with an à la Carte menu. This has to booked in advance but comes at no extra cost. There is a good choice from a more limited range of items and is elegantly presented with an attention to detail, flavour and presentation. This is a large hotel but there is a calm elegance about it and it never seems crowded, even at meal times. We always got the impression that we were the most important people there. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. There was always a welcome at any time of day from the doorman, the reception team, the waiting staff, housekeeping and maintenance. After so many years glimpsing the hotel from the outside, I was delighted that it more than lived up to expectations. Thoroughly recommended. More
The location view is stunning. The Staff are first class throughout the hotel and can't do enough for you. Excellent Food in the restaurant is varied and plentiful morning and evening meal. Couldn't fault anything about the place. TUI rep Charlotte very helpful with pleasant attitude. More
