Worst experience we've ever had with the hotel food and service
Warning....this hotel was a total disaster....their food buffet was sp horrible, I don't even know where to begin. I feel the quality of their food was horrible....it tasted terrible! The selections were so cheap for what they are charging to stay there! The rooms were not soundproofed at all large gaps under the door let us hear everyone walking and dropping things all night long throughout the hallways! When confronting the management the second in charge started to blast off statistics stating that 90% of the people liked their buffet....however when asking other patrons staying there around us we couldn't get more than 60% of the people to say the food was good enough...so much for statistics! The housekeeping was excellent and our room was kept very clean. The front desk people were informed and friendly! Especially Zuzanna she was really informed and curtious! All of the bartenders and waitresses and waiters were also excellent at their jobs..however the breaking point for us was the rude busboys who clearly were disorganized and rude! They were clearly overworked or perhaps understaffed causing friction amongst the customers. To us they appeared to not be enjoying working for this Riu Hotel chain! Tonight with 35 minutes still remaining to eat a busboy screamed at us to sit in another section as he was prematurely setting up the area for breakfast while people were still coming in to eat! The other tables in the other eating area were still dirty with dishware from other customers on the tables so we went the section he pointed at yelling for us to go there but we chose a clean table and he began yelling sit at another table after we had already put our dinners on a clean table! It was at this point he really began to yell...he didn't want to clean another table and to use the yable that he then cleaned off after we had already sat down. Now given that the food we had to choose from which was not very good...we decided that was it for us...we said how dare you scream at customers ordering them to sit at tables that were not set up...while he was so busy worrying about the tables for breakfast! After all there was still people coming in for dinner...breakfast is in 10 hours and dinner did not stop for another 30 minutes. We left our crappy food on the table and just walked out...yo another restaurant on the island. Tomorrow we are looking for a new hotel to stay at even though we prepaid for the Riu...most hotels are full at this season so we may have to stay the last four nights but clearly we will never stay at a Riu Hotel ever again anywhere! The General manager who was nice said there was nothing he could do about the quality of their food as it's a chain and the people above him that run Riu make those decisions! However training his staff to behave properly towards paying customers is his responsibility! I give this hotel a rating of a Minus -1 because of the food quality, the noise levels in the hallways and lack of sound proofing! We will NEVER stay at the Riu Hotel chain EVER AGAIN!More
Great stay. Room for improvement
Do not use the Avis car rental counter in the hotel. It seems practical, but it is basically a scam. Avis is tricking their customers, and with the counter the RIU is helping them. Stained an otherwise good stay. That We returned the car fully refueled did not matter to Avis. They gave us an extra fee for fuel, with a higher amount than the the cost of renting the car. The hotel gave us no warning or help. The Avis agent tried aggressively to sell extra add-ons and seemed shocked when we did not want all the extras, most of which are covered by a regular travel insurance. Riu should stop support to this practise. Hotel staff noted what happened, but did not do anything to help. Never again Avis. All in all, we had a great stay at Riu Oasis and would probably come back if we find another discount. Would not pay full price. Location right at the beach, close to small stores and shopping possibility. As it is a rather German oriented hotel with many German guests, it was fun to practice some German language with those of the staff that did not speak English too well. Nice garden. The service at the hotel is in most cases excellent. Room is clean rather well. Some days we had some ants in the bathroom and at the balcony with a great ocean view through the palm trees on the second floor (kind of an ant high way out there). Staff said they would notify the cleaners. Not sure if it helped. Orders in the bar and the concert area (live house band every evening, sometimes other acts in addition) come quick. There is often one person who is there all the time just to take orders and registers it electronically, and the someone else brings the drinks. Worked smoothly and excellent local white wine. By the pool on the side facing the beach area you might have to wait maybe half an hour sometimes as there was only one person serving and taking orders, it seemed. But it worked rather smoothly if you are not in a hurry, as you rarely are by the pool, and drinks and food came quickly when you had ordered. We had the half pension and did not regret it. The breakfast ends a bit early at 10.30 every day, even on the weekend. The food was great. Many different dishes for breakfast, and the same for the dinner buffet. The two other restaurant were nice too. Worth trying as a change up. Again, great stay, but some minor issues to improve to live up to the five stars: -the water temperature in the shower changed from way too cold to boiling hot from one second to another. Some mornings were worse than others and it was really unpleasant to shower. We didn't take it up with the staff, but guess there would have been little they could do with it. -we went to the hotel spa for a massage twice. The first time it was an excellent experience. The second time they demanded that we come to the spa the day before to sign a contract or confirmation. We were out for the day, but managed to get back before they closed. Then the massage itself was great, but even though they finished the massage almost 10 minutes before the hour was up, they rushed us out and did not let us finish getting dressed before they started preparing the room for the next guests. We were outside the spa exactly on the hour and asked ourselves what had just happened. The masseuses actually came into the room before we had the chance to get dressed. It felt really disrespectful and was not a relaxing experience in the end. Strange that they do not have at least 15 minutes between customers. Unprofessional at best. -We had no reason to doubt that the bill for additional services at the hotel was correct, but it is a bit difficult to understand the bill it self. We couldn't really follow what the costs are referring too with regards to things we ordered. It doesn't always say clearly what restaurant or product the cost is referring to. -on arrival 14.50 (check-in is at 15.00) we were kindly greeted and told to "go out there" for a welcome drink, so we did. We sat there for 20 minutes before any welcome drink came. Felt a bit unnecessary. We would have been happy just to sit in the foaje and wait for ten minutes there without the drink. -before arrival at the hotel we ordered a bottle of cava to the room. The very nice lady on the phone said she would fix us some chilled brut cava. We were happy to see that the chilled cava was there when we arrived, though it was not the type we ordered. Not the end of the world and we enjoyed the sec cava very much of course, but one of those small things the hotel might want to get right for this price. -one of the days for breakfast there weren’t really many free tables and we wanted to have a conversation in confidence, so we sat down by a table that wasn’t prepared with coffee mugs etc. meaning a table not in use for the breakfast, but extremely close to those in use. It was our mistake and we didn't know the strict rules, but it still felt a bit unnecessary when one of the staff in an irritated manner refused us to (our selves) bring coffee to the table. Another of the staff, Ivan, helped us and saved us from the situation with the annoyed colleague of his. -We were a bit surprised that they could not give us even half an hour delayed check out after eight nights. Only option is to pay per hour. Understand that sometimes it is not possible to delay the check out, but we were there rather off season and it was very clear that the hotel was far from full capacity. Its the kind of service you in most cases get from even lower rated hotels. Feels like an unnecessary attempt to make some extra off guests that are already paying. Could have been a nice and kind send off.More
stayed here before refurbishment but now after it the hotel is amazing , the transformation of the hole hotel is something else , although we did miss the all inclusive , the food is still great , the staff are great and we did go a little extra and got ourselves a swim up room which is also amazing and takes away the hassle of trying to get the best spot at the pool but there is plenty of sun beds at the now 3 pools , we will defiantly be going back again some other time . Loved the Riu Palace Oasis
My wife and I enjoyed a week at this super hotel from 04/02/2020. The highlights were the pleasant staff, the lovely room, the superb food, the immaculately kept gardens and the proximity to the beach and promenade. The staff at the hotel were pleasant, smiled a lot and always said hello when passing. We very much felt welcomed. We have never been on a beach type holiday before, but needed some recuperative winter sunshine. We were given a ground floor room (2127) that was by one of the three swimming pools. Not something we would have asked for, but should we return would certainly request. The room was spacious and clean and along with the large bathroom (what an incredibly powerful and refreshing shower) was refreshed to a high standard each day by the cleaning staff. Our small terrace with chairs allowed for sitting out and the pool in front had ample sun loungers to while away the hours. The area was incredibly quiet at night and the black out curtains were extremely effective, allowing for a good night’s sleep. Now to the food - three restaurants in total on site, but we chose to enjoy the buffet style Promenade restaurant each day (for breakfast and our evening meal). Why? The choice and the availability to have a little of this or that. Each evening, at dinner, we were like kids in a sweet shop and having a plate with some of this or that allowed us to taste things we would not normally choose. The food was delicious and catered for a wide variety of tastes. Not once did we struggle to fill our plates and the choice of desserts were a grand finale. The fresh fish was varied throughout the week and cooked extremely well. All in all we had no need to eat other than in the Promenade restaurant. The al a carte restaurant had an interesting menu but we remained faithful to the buffet restaurant. The gardens were so well tended and offered shade and seclusion should it be sought. The gardeners certainly work hard to keep the outside spaces immaculate. We relaxed at the poolside next to our room each day and that would sum up our experience - relaxing! However, as walkers, each day saw us walk along the beach or promenade. The latter included a selection of up market (in the main) shops. As these were air conditioned, you could take a chill break if needed. A couple of constructive (hopefully) thoughts for Riu to consider - like other classy hotels don’t charge for the safe. As the water is undrinkable from the taps (there was a warning sign) it would be nice if you factored in a bottle of water for each guest each day as a token. Thanks for the ice machine in the block we stayed! A smoking area in a far flung area of the garden (we don’t smoke) would be better than allowing smoking in the bar area, around pools or some parts of the open eating area of the Promenade restaurant. Even seeking areas of the upper outside area of the restaurant did not allow us to escape the wafting of the smoke of others at our evening meal or even breakfast. Would we like to return to the Palace Oasis? Most certainly we would. We had a super time and thoroughly recommend others to try it out too. Thanks to all the staff we came across at the hotel and for others behind the scenes - you provided us with a superb holiday!More
Nearly a great hotel
Beautifully refurbished hotel. Close to beach and dunes as well as shops and bars. Unfortunately the sun beds are very uncomfortable with no cushions. There was also noisy renovation works going on for 3 days which meant we couldn’t sit by the pool near our room. I raised this with reception twice but they weren’t interested. I had suggested they put a notice in reception to say what was being done when and where. Some staff were exceptional eg bar and restaurant but reception were very formal and not overly helpful. Our room was superb with lovely sea view and a lot of space. I had ice bucket and cava as present to our room on my birthday which was thoughtful. I was also astonished that they charge for the use of the room safe. I can’t recall the last time I was charged to use the room safe. Food was excellent and varied. Nearly excellent. Perhaps take your own sunbed cushion?More
