Fantastic family holiday
We stayed at Protur Safari Park in Sa Coma with a group of 11 including our daughter who has coeliac disease. Food is always a worry but Martin in the kitchen was superb. They cooked her a meal separately every night. There was a separate section at breakfast and lunch she ordered GF bread for sandwiches. They happily created a plate from fresh of whatever she wanted from the buffet. Fantastic service. Food for everyone else was great - we didn’t feel the need to venture to the restaurants. Lots of activities in the day, pools were great, adults enjoyed the sports available and kids club was great too. Although the mini disco was the kids favourite part! Beach is 5-10 mins away - was busy but a nice cove. Evening entertainment was good but if you wanted to go the the local bars they were busy too. A great trip - highly recommended.More
We stayed at the Protur Safari Park at the beginning of August for two weeks with our children aged 13 and 16. We were a little apprehensive after reading the reviews about this hotel as they were very mixed, however we booked before seeing any negative ones so had to just go with it. This is a very large hotel so we expected it to be busy. I will write a little about the various areas: Rooms: Our room had a patio overlooking the pool. Sofa beds for the children to sleep on in the lounge area. Fridge, kettle, sink, glasses in the kitchenette. Spacious bedroom but beds were much harder than we were used to but we did get used to them. Only one pillow each but we put cushions under and this seemed to suffice. Had we asked they may have had spare pillows but it wasn't that much of a big deal for us. Cleaning of rooms takes place 5 days a week so remember to save your towels , cleaners always friendly and polite. Pools: 5 pools in total, 2 of which are baby pools. The pools get very crowded as people are allowed to take large inflatables and balls in. This didn't bother us though as our kids enjoyed doing the same thing. If you have the idea of doing some lengthy swimming you may struggle! Towels are out on sunbeds early but there were still plenty around at 8am if you weren't fussy about position. As our kids are older we didn't need to be poolside with them. You cannot leave a towel on a sunbed before 9am as they are quite often removed by pool staff if you are not sat on them. I thought this was a great way to deal with a situation that occurs in most hotels. Poolside is pressure washed every morning and litter cleared. There are recycling bins for plastic and paper around the pool. Food and drink: Breakfast had a great buffet selection of continental and cooked breakfasts, choice of yoghurts and a huge selection of fruit. Also omelettes made to order and pancakes with a range of toppings. There is also a gluten free section which has it's own toaster . Lunch and dinner are also buffet style with a wide choice of dishes. There is also a grill at dinner time which serves meat and fish. Main meals are labelled as vegetarian or gluten free so people can easily make the necessary choices. The dessert table was again generous in it's selection with plenty of fruit if you chose not to indulge in the cakes, jellies and mousses. During the day there was a snack bar providing cold meats, bread rolls and fillings, fruit and cakes. We didn't often use this as we were so full from the other meals! A limited selection of all inclusive ice creams, but the kids seemed happy enough. There was coke, fanta and sprite on tap which tasted exactly like drinking out of a can/bottle. My husband was happy with the beer which was included and I enjoyed the local version of Malibu. We have no complaints about the food or drink, all were great. Bar service was slower in the evening due to the volume of people waiting to be served, however, they worked so hard and my complaint would be that the people waiting need to be a little more polite - it is difficult for the bar staff to keep track of who is next to appear at such a large bar so would be nice if the customers were a little more respectful of who they can see was waiting first. Unfortunately many chose not to notice that there were a couple of people waiting when they arrived. Staff: All staff were extremely friendly and helpful and I cannot speak highly enough of them all. They all spoke great English which when my limited Spanish was struggling was immensely helpful. The entertainment staff work so hard to keep everyone happy and kept us all amused, they work well as a team together. The kids mini disco at night seemed to gather an adult following and you just can't help but want to join in! The external entertainment brought in was ok, some better than others - loved Take That and Queen tributes. Activities: We made the most of these. We hired bikes and rode along the coastal path for some distance, stopping for large ice cream desserts at the harbour, played mini golf three times, tried out the golfing range and also scuba diving. We also played table tennis and pool near the bar. We also did the water aerobics which was good fun and there were several other activities arranged such as pool volleyball but we did not participate as were enjoying a lie on a sunbed (yes, we got one each!). Car hire: I would highly recommend this. We hired a convertible car for the day from the Protur cars and was helped by a lady who spoke fluent English. She gave us a large map of Majorca and suggested places to explore. This was a fantastic day. Day trips: The only trip we did was a four hour tour on a glass bottomed boat. Never again! The pictures showed people snorkelling in calm turquoise waters but this was not the case. We set off and within five minutes we started to feel really ill from being thrown around by the boat (we had all had travel pills prior). The swim stops were in in deep water which was reminiscent of being in the channel. My son was holding on to a rope attached to the boat and went from being submerged up to his neck to being completely out of the water! Once people got in the water they were trying to get out so other people couldn't get in. Despite advertising free snorkelling masks there were not enough to go round. After two hours we were then told to change boats at another destination where there was already a massive queue to get on. We ended up getting off an hour before the trip ended. Beach: The beach is about a 12 minute walk away past some tourist shops. It is very busy and you have to pay for sunbeds but we just put our towels on the sand and it was fine. I would expect you would need to be there early if you wanted a sunbed and the type of sunbed you had seemed to change the price. Shore line is a little stony with seaweed but fine once you get past that. Snorkelling is great with lots to see. The was an amazing holiday made special by the effort the staff put in. I would like to thank everyone involved who works at the Protur for making this a memorable holiday. We definitely hope we can return one day to enjoy another Juicy Wiggle! (please don't ever let your entertainment team leave!)More
Not a 4 star!
Shame on TUI, after a lovely week on a cruise we chose to go to a hotel for 3 nights after. This was recommended as part of the package so we booked. Good points... nice rooms, lovely pools and mini golf but it stops there. No waiter service, buffet is a scrum and even their reservation restaurants is like eating in a cafeteria. (Have people forgotten how to queue!!) Evening entertainment is poor and no separate smoking area is a big no no. Having travelled to lots of hotels this is defo not a 4 star.More

We book again
Lovely hotel which was well maintained. The staff worked extremely hard in all areas of the resort. Only issues were the lack of vegetarian options some nights and the smokers at the evening entertainment. There should be smoking areas so we don't all have to suffer!More
