Excellent, refined, peaceful Hotel!
A beautiful hotel, cleverly designed and kept immaculately by the dedicated staff. Nearly 5 star but not quite. The reception area is excellent, leading into comfortable residents areas and bars. Lifts take you all the way from your room to the pool and patio and the beach. The rooms have been refurbished and are excellent with great bathrooms, loads of storage(all new furniture) and fridge etc. Really comfortable Queen beds. The aircon is fine until the early hours when quite obviously the economy mode for the overall system kicks in and the temperature rises-management-please sort this. Restaurant-somebody said "ok"? That is incorrect . The catering is of a very high standard both at breakfast and dinner and the variety is immense. We never generally eat in every night but this was simply too good to resist. One sitting and no long trousers, at least until 16th Sept. Come on management-sort this. just ensure people wear decent tailored shorts. Some guests were really taking liberties! The central core lifts take you to -1 and then if you walk to the end of the corridor past the gym to the seaward end, another lift takes you to the pool, with the beach just beyond. Great if you are disabled like me. No kids! No animation! No loud rubbish music! No yobs! Fabulous! However- The sunbeds whilst new are very, very basic and uncomfortable. Come on management, get some matresses like all the better hotels. Also, the sunbeds are arranged in very tight rows-not great. The pool is beautifully constructed and is not really cold. Always, always clean as is all of the hotel-a tribute to superb staff and management. There are security gates to let you out onto the beach and prom and keep unwanteds out. The pool bar is very good with great snacks and the alcahol/soft drinks are not overpriced, but the music which is not too loud is awful-management please! It is a beautiful, quiet hotel, looked after with pride by the staff who always have a smile and a welcome. Already booked back for next year!More
We have just returned from a weeks holiday at the Monica. The hotel is in a good location about a 10 minute walk from the town centre. There are plenty of bars and restaurants on your doorstep and a couple of decent supermarkets all close by. The food in the hotel is ok considering they have to cater for large numbers of people the breakfast is lovely but the evening meals whilst there is nothing bad about them they didn’t stand out. The rooms are spacious and clean and well equipped with a fridge, hairdryer and English tv if you are so inclined. The clientele with it being adults only are definitely more on the mature side I’m 45 and was by far one of the youngest there by a good 20 years and the hotel was fully booked, this in itself is not a problem but if you are looking for interaction with a similar age group you may struggle. On the whole an ok holiday.More

Very good hotel but ...
10 night stay. Very good hotel with a few annoying issues which could easily be resolved by management. Staff excellent throughout. Right on the beach. Easy 10 minute walk to the excellent resort centre of Nerja. The beach is darker gritty sand. Sun beds to hire for a reasonable 10 euro for two beds and umbrella. Two bar/restaurants by the beach and several opposite the main hotel entrance. We were on the 5th floor. We paid extra for a full sea view. It's more important to have a higher floor at which point all the rooms have good sea views. Room was spacious, good quality bathroom/shower. Large comfortable beds, okay sized balcony and you can request a change of towels and bedding when you like. Fridge handy for storing water and pre dinner drinks! Not a fan of the 23 euro charge for use of the room safe. The pool area is well kept and sun beds were always available. However it's a touch small for the size of the hotel so expect to be cheek by jowl with your sunbathing neighbours. The choice and quality of food was very good indeed. Wine/drinks very well priced. Brilliant WiFi. Three simple things, of varying annoyance, for RIU management to address: Do not allow smoking on the restaurant terrace. Either abandon or enforce long trouser dress code for men. Implement your own policy of not allowing reservation of sun beds. These gripes may not bother some people but it's an easy no cost win for the hotel to implement and, in my opinion, improve the overall guest experience.More
