Nice resort with an amazing beach
The Riu Palace Tropical Bay is a newly renovated beautiful resort. We stayed at the resort from May 6-13, 2019. The staff was very polite, friendly and accommodating fo the most part. Especially the staff at the buffet. The check-in process was a breeze. My only complaint is that we went through a travel agent for a wedding and there was supposed to be rooms blocked for us in the same area. This didn't happen. We were spread all over the place. The worker at the counter acted like he didn't know anything about the rooms that were supposed to be blocked for the group We ended up with probably one of the worst rooms on the property. We were located in the back of the resort, ground floor and by the highway. The highway traffic is extremely noisy and disruptive. Car horns beeping constantly and the cleaning staff were very loud in the mornings around 8am. The worker at the desk wasn't willing to help us with a better room even after we requested to do so. To be relocated we were told that we would have to pay an additional $50 each per night which is outrageous considering what we already paid for the trip. This was very disappointing to me especially at the beginning of the vacation. This has never happened at a Riu before and I've stayed at 4 others in the past. The food was great. The buffet was by far my favorite as it had the most selection. The steak house was also very good. They serve good steaks and burgers. We also tried to Italian restaurant however I have to say that I enjoyed the spaghetti better at the buffet. The beach was the best part of the vacation. The beach is well maintained, the water is very warm and calm. It's a great spot for snorkeling. We saw lots of stingrays and tropical fish each day that we snorkeled. There were always plenty of beach chairs available. The entertainment was good but felt a little lacking some nights. Maybe because we are used to bigger resorts with multiple events going on each night but with Tropical Bay being on the smaller side, there's only the one entertainment area. The entertainers work hard so you won't be disappointed with the performances! Overall it was a good experience.More
Another Holiday in Paradise
This was our 11 visit to the Riu Palace Tropical Bay & our first since the renovations have been carried out ! The Staff as usual are brilliant & treat us like royalty ! The Rooms have been upgraded to a high standard. The old Colonial features have gone & the Reception & Buffet Restaurant have changed vastly - the latter not for the better. The modern features are not to our taste & has not been well designed, as food from the main kitchen has to be transported through the dining area to the Cooking Stations & buffet food area & then taken back to the kitchen via the same route on completion your meal. We thought the food was not as good as usual - not as much Jamaican specialities or Themed Nights - more repetitive food & not as much choice ! The beach / sea is just amazing - the pools are much better now & lots of sun beds both round the pools & on the beach. But what makes this place so special are the Staff & we cannot thank them enough for making our Holiday so special - we will be back ! A & JMore
Riu Palace Tropical Bay
Property was beautiful, room was clean and well maintained, and the quality of the food was great. Everything about the beach was excellent, but you needed to get to beach very early to get a shady spot. There were also a lot of people smoking marijuana on the beach and the hotel property which we found annoying. Special kudos to Wayne, who was our server in the buffet in the evening, and Bubbles who coordinated activities on the beach (she was also very busy working in the kids area). While the quality of the food in the buffet was very good, the variety was not as good as other Riu hotels we have stayed at. The jerk chicken hut was a great place for lunch as the quality of the food was outstanding. The server we had the first couple days for breakfast was not very friendly, therefore we made sure we did not sit in her area the rest of the week.More

Best Holiday - Great Hotel
This was our third time to Jamaica and first in this Hotel and we will be back! We arrived late afternoon after a great flight, on arrival the Reception Staff were really friendly and welcoming and in no time at all we were checked in and being shown to our Rooms, we were in Block 3 and had 2 adjoining rooms, they were immaculate, very spacious and clean and the fridge and optics were well stocked. The Beach here is beautiful, the water is crystal clear, the hotel is kept very clean and tidy by the maintenance staff, they take the ripe coconuts from the trees and fill them with Rum, just give them a little tip!! The Restaurants are fantastic, we could not fault the food, plenty of choice at breakfast, lunch and dinner in the buffet, if you want something different for lunch you have the Jerk Hut on the beach, wow, fantastic!! We ate in the Japanese and the Krystal Restaurants, we did not have to wait for a table, the service and the food was so good. The Bars were great, all served really good drinks, the mud slides were the best!! and our waiter on the beach Grey, he is a legend, we love him!! The entertainment team work really hard day and night, they are always smiling, you can join in if you want, but they do not pester you! All the staff at this resort are the friendliest by far that we have ever encountered!! They made us all feel so welcome and always looked after us. We will be back, we love you all and thank you for making our holiday the best!! More
3 Star Hotel but overall 4 Star Experience
We chose to stay at this hotel since the prices were a little better than others, and it still had great reviews. With that, it is expected the hotel itself was not as nice as some of the other resorts we have been to. Check in was delayed by about 40 min which was annoying but not earth shattering. Although our room had several issues including problems with the air conditioner, fan, TV, and outlets, the front desk promptly sent out someone to fix the issues and they were mostly all resolved. The hotel itself is clean but needs to be totally renovated to be considered any more than 3 stars in my opinion (including the pools). The beaches at this resort are phenomenal (clear & calm water, no seaweed, soft sand) however the resort does not prevent locals from trying to sell you stuff all day (which was really annoying). The staff and entertainment team definitely bumps up the rating. There is always something fun and entertaining going on at the resort. The drinks and food were good, dinner being the most delicious for sure. Their breakfast game is definitely slacking though with an especially disappointing fresh fruit selection (one of the things I look forward to most on vacation). And the room service menu is very small and does not have anything appetizing on it. Jerk chicken hut was absolutely phenomenal, we ate there almost every day for lunch.More
