RIU Palace Tropical Bay
2nd visit! We just love this hotel! First went in 2017 and fell in love with the resort, so much so we came back in 2019. It is e most magical place, the hotel is stunning, the location amazing and the people first class. The staff are wonderful, the food is varied and very good, especially the jerk chicken hut. We will always return here. It deserves its 5 stars and is simply outstanding More
Lovely place to visit
This was my first visit to the Riu Tropical in Jamaica. I found the staff very friendly. They always greeted you with a smile and would ask if you was ok and could they do anything for you. They made you feel very special. The rooms are very clean and modern and security staff patrol throughout the night. The food was plentiful with a wide range to choose from. The only thing I would say is that selection of food in the 24 lounge could be better, apart from that I had a brilliant stay and will defiantly be booking my next holiday there soon. More
Simply The Best!
Where do i begin? The staff was amazing! The resort was spotless. The beach was beyond beautiful, but we knew that going into it! There was always someone cleaning all the time all over the resort. Our room was in villa 3 which was perfect. We we right in the middle of everything. I was afraid I wasn't going to like the renos because I loved the old world charm it had before but it was wonderful. Check in was easy and fast and the young lady who checked us in was beyond lovely. Our housekeeping was fabulous. Our mini bar was restocked everyday . Oh.....and the food was wonderful! If you can't find something HOT and good to eat you must be extremely snooty. The one morning the few pancakes that I found where getting stiff and cold and before I could ask for fresh ones the sweet lady cooking at tbat station asked me if i would like fresh. All of the workers were extremely nice, professional and helpful when needed. Oh and the entertainment staff work hard as well. I just cant complain about anything. We hope to visit again someday! Loved the place and mostly the people!! Thanks RPTB for giving us a lovely vacation!More
Hotel was everything we expected. Unfortunately can’t say the same about the staff! On the day of our arrival we were told we had been upgraded to sea view rooms (we had already paid for junior suites with balcony’s). We get to the rooms to find you can see the sea if you come out onto the balcony position your chair in the corner and look to your left! Unsure why the receptionist thought it would be good to tell us that but that was the first fail of the hotel staff. Day 1 all buffet staff were amazing very chatty, there to top drinks up etc. From day 2 onwards this was NOT the case. We arrived at breakfast day 2 having to get drinks ourselves in the main restaurant (obviously not an issue, if we had to get our drinks and only speak to each other from day one we’d never have noticed the attitudes change.) plates were left on our table to pile up until we literally called for the table to be cleared...the attitudes were astonishing. Day 4 my birthday was excellent surprisingly the buffet staff were back to ‘normal’ they were back to being chatty, cleared the table straight away at both lunch and breakfast topping up drinks saying happy birthday as they passed. We ate at the Japanese restaurant for dinner which was super, the staff bought a cake out singing happy birthday with my daughter & friends it was lovely, unfortunately it was to go down hill from there until the day we left. Day5 we went on an excursion arriving back when dinner had more ales ended at the buffet and all restaurants were closing. I decided I’d order room service...I ordered tuna salad and nachos. My order came 45 mins later the nachos had no guacamole and the cheese was ice cold, the tuna salad was literally a plate of lettuce with 4 slices of cucumber and a tiny pot with a teaspoon of tuna and a tub of cold squeezy cheese!! I immediately called back to be told there’s no guacamole and that’s how the salad is!! Huge disappointment Day 5 buffet staff had gone back to being rude ignoring us leaving plates not topping up drinks. By now the sun and sea was fine for me I had enough of hearing the kissing of teeth and taking time to just do the jobs they were being paid for! After lunch I went back to our room realising the room hadn’t been cleaned I called reception 4 times over 3 hours (it was raining heavily we stayed in for at least 5 hours falling asleep before the cleaner eventually came. Every time I called reception they asked ‘ is the do not disturb sign on the door’ obviously by the 4th call I was frustrated there was no sign on the door all day! Day 6 same thing with the staff and our phone and WiFi was miraculously not working!! I asked my friends next door.. theirs was fine neighbours downstairs had WiFi, it took a further 3 hours before the reception staff acknowledged I had no phone and no WiFi! Day 7 the worst day and glad to be leaving... breakfast all four of us got to breakfast early again no acknowledgement from staff and no drinks. My friend ended up calling at the top of her voice for a coffee. A manager shouted over advising she was a little busy and would ask one of the other ladies. She called Samantha (one of the ladies who had consistently been rude towards us all week) asking her to get the coffee for my friend as she is busy. Samantha proceeded to literally run over to the table directly behind us that was full of Americans with a table full of tips!!!! My friend then called another manager advising her of the situation. A while later Samantha returned to the restaurant shouting to her colleagues advising we had tried to get her in trouble muttering what she should do while pointing directly at our table. We left the restaurant to pack to get the hell out of there as now all restaurant staff were whispering and pointing at us which was quite scary as Samantha was quite aggressive with her tone. Not a good representation of the RIU at all More
Time doesn't exist!
If you're thinking Jamaica, you won't go wrong with this hotel. Rooms are spacious and well equipped. The place is spotless. Food is well prepared and, in the case of the buffet, surprisingly good quality. The staff are the hotels biggest asset though, professional, friendly and welcoming to everyone. Beach is kept beautiful and clean. Don't know if it's deliberate or not, but, not a clock to be found anywhere on site, easy to lose track of what day it is, sheer bliss! They make you feel like royalty, a true Palace. More
