Secrets St James Montego Bay
This hotel raises the bar on luxury holidays – everything from pools to dining is done on a grand scale.
This high-end, adults-only retreat has won awards from the likes of TripAdvisor and Condé Nast Traveler. Its setting will certainly have helped – it’s on a quiet peninsula, with over half a mile of private beach.
The plus points extend way beyond the tropical setting. There’s a huge pool, a host of gourmet restaurants, and Junior Suites come as standard. A world-class spa rounds things off with a flourish, and you can also make the most of what the neighbouring Secrets Wild Orchid Montego Bay has to offer.

Short Trip to Montego Bay
was disappointed that it took over 1.5 hours past check in time to get key to our room We arrived around 2pm and we understood check in was 3pm. It was around 4:30 before room was actually ready. it was a short trip for us so we we're hoping it would be a faster processMore

I have stayed at Secrets Akumal and Playa Mujeres and this Secrets is not as nice. The pools feel very dated (1970’s dated). The rooms are nice. We really struggled with the housekeeping for our room. Rarely had a wash cloth and obtaining one via the app, phone call or asking in person still couldn’t get us a wash cloth. We did download the app prior to arrival. Honestly not impressed. It doesn’t work for obtaining basic towels for your room and only works to call the resort people, not outside to the US. Honestly don’t see the need to download it. The iPad in the room worked for room service. Food was decent at Italian, French and Oceana. The Jamaican and Mexican options ruined our experience- not good at all. Nightly fun entertainment by the Piano bar. Definitely recommend. Breakfast buffet was fine. We did have friends staying in the St James Preferred Club and that was nicer for options of a coffee bar and dining at Breathless. We did go to the Foam Party at Breathless and had a blast. Would have preferred to stay at Breathless as it appears to be a much nicer/newer accommodation. J Star, Kenny, Delicious, Jethro were all welcoming and kind! We had several other servers at dinner (Portofino, Bordeaux and Oceana) that were wonderful as well, mad at myself for not remembering their names. The service, food and drinks at the Jamaican restaurant were bad. Wished we would’ve avoided this one altogether. It was a struggle trying to coordinate a bday celebration with photography, dinner and cake. At the price you pay for this resort, I wish management would have been more helpful in helping us with these simple things. Obtaining 1 wash cloth was impossible. Turn down service couldn’t even get me one. We asked for 1 at 6p. When one finally arrived, the man knocked loudly on our door at 10:15p yelling “housekeeping”. Before I could get my feet on the floor from bed, he was already inside our room. Scared the living crap outta me. Why not use the food service drop spot? This resort charges Ritz prices yet treats you like a low end crappy resort. I am taking Secrets Maroma off my wish list. I’m officially done with this hotel chain. I do not recommend this resort. Beach was ok for Jamaica but not as great as the reviews say it is. I have no idea how this place has the outstanding reviews that it does. It’s not worth the price. Checkout, they didn’t even ask how our stay was. No one who worked here ever asked nor seemed to care. More

This hotel was lovely but the service was extremely slow and nit sure why but the ladies not friendly at all.I ended up going to hospital .Based on the fact it is on high alert at present the guest shop did not offer much in way of medicines and going off site was not recommended.More
A week in the sun
We stayed at this hotel from the 1st until the 8th January. We flew with Tui from the UK in the premium cabin which I would highly recommend and well worth the money. The Christmas decorations were lovely around the resort and a lot of effort put into them. Our room could have been cleaned better the week we were there. The bedding and towels were of good quality and always clean and fresh. We ate at all of the restaurants around the resort the buffet restaurant for both breakfast and lunch was excellent. We spent all of our time at the beach and this was lovely, the weather was a little hit and miss but this can't be helped and didn't prevent us from enjoying our break. We liked Jamaica and hope to return in a few years.More
great new years holiday
Hotel was much bigger than i would normally choose to stay at and some reviews posted were not great so apprehensive, however, I think some people pay secrets prices and want sandy lane!! Positives- new years eve was great we chose a big hotel so there would be a good party and the hotel did not let us down- great band amazing fireworks all credit to all the staff that night they were worked off their feet!! Evening entertainment was really good - housekeeping very good Areas to be worked on:- food- the buffets were great at breakfast and lunch good variety freshly cooked - always well stocked and generally replenished quickly the main restaurants i thought the french one dreadful( food and service ) the Italian ok Mexican good New year's eve my lobster was just horrible and the steak chewy clearly a very cheap cut of meat but my partner's lobster was lovely . Bar service /drinks generally good- bearing in mind we were at the hotel at peak time and it was at capacity service if you walked to bar was speedy and the beach service was efficient negatives -you could list lots of faults with a big busy hotel - generally we found staff very friendly and accommodating - more so if you tipped. Previously i've tipped staff at the end of my holiday - - but equally we used the system to work for us- lets just say some staff will look after you better if you 'look' after them which helped getting a nice sun bed spot so don't go expecting sandy lane and you will have a lovely holiday!!
