What a fantastic Hotel!!!
I feel that I should not share my feelings regarding this Italian gem as I would like to keep it to myself. However why should I? This hotel and the staff make a holiday a fantastic reality. The location (some 10 minutes from the centre of Sorrento by way of the free courtesy bus) is superb. It gives you the best of both worlds. The superb service of the staff, the superb cuisine and the complete facilities and a short ride to the centre of town (should you need it). I and my wife have enjoyed all this for the past five years. What a GEM!!More
Lovely hotel and fantastic staff
We stayed at La Solara for 14 nights at the beginning of September, with our 10 month old baby. We chose La Solara based on the outstanding trip advisor reviews and I have to say, it lived up to the hype! We were anxious on arrival at the hotel as we were baby in tow and the hotel seemed rather quiet; most of the guests were older than ourselves and we were conscious that our sociable baby may be a little too chatty! However that anxiety soon passed as we were made to feel extremely welcome by all staff and other guests. Our daughter by the end of the holiday felt like a celebrity! We must give a huge thanks for this to Nello, who every morning would greet us with a grin and a ‘Ciao Bella!’ and was able to organise food for our daughter in the early evening as the restaurant served food slightly too late for her. That brings me to the food; it was delicious. We stopped half board, there was a good variety at breakfast and evening meal was a 3 course meal for which there was a very good choice. The chef’s recommendation and regional dishes were always particularly tasty. Allergies are well catered for and staff are well informed about this as our daughter has an egg allergy and the chef was able to accommodate this without issue. Marcello ran the restaurant like clockwork and his wine recommendations were fantastic! The hotel itself is spotless! The housekeeping team here do a fantastic job and work really hard. In general we cannot thank the staff at La Solara enough for making our holiday so memorable and enjoyable. Thank you Nello, Marcello, Massimo, Angelo, Guillermo, Nino, Antonio, Antonio, Bruno, Carmen (and the rest of the housekeeping team, apologies as I cannot remember everyone’s names!) we had a truly fantastic time at La Solara and hope to return again soon!More
Great place to stay
We found this hotel by reading reviews and it has’nt disappointed. It’s not walking distance to town as it’s in the hills with fantastic views. But don’t let this discourage you. They offer a free shuttle that runs every hour until late at night to bring you back and forth. No need for a car at all. The restaurant is excellent too. The staff is very friendly. We highly recommend staying here. Try to get a superior sea view room with a terrace. Bellissimo.More
A relaxed stay with good service
The hotel really is as reviewed ie. Good service, good pool, reliable shuttle bus etc. One of the things we liked was the easy walk down to the restaurants at Puolo beach for lunch time. Another thing worth commenting on was that the drinks seemed very fair prices, and the mini bar was priced no more than the main bar. There was a range of bottles of wine between 13 and 16 euros, and 20 euros would get you a very nice wine. We would dfinitely stay again.More
Overall very good
Just returned from a week's stay at la solara. As others have commented and we would endorse the hotel is spotless and the staff could not be more helpful. The decor could definitely do with an update to bring it into the 21st century but that is not the fault of the hotel which is immaculately maintained by the hard working team. The pool is a delight with no early rush to secure a sunbed on the terrace during the day and with wonderful evening sunset views over the bay. Free courtesy bus is always prompt on the hour from the hotel and return 1/4 past the hour from collection point and made trips into town easy, just as well as taxi from centre of town cost €25! A good base for exploring, Pompeii or the Amalfi coast via the ferries, trains, or sightseeing buses which can be easily accessed from the city centre. Somewhat limited by its location high in the hills for a leisurely stroll. Nearest harbour which you can see from the hotel is a steep hike away, not for the mobility challlenged. Didn't try the gala night but those who did expressed a very positive experience. They know their core customer base well, primarily older repeat visit couples who enjoy the individual recognition by an established staff team. Personally for me the food was mediocre, although others loved it, nothing inedible except a carbonara for lunch one day which looked more like scrambled eggs but for me the food quality was more 3 star than 4. We ended up swapping 3 evening meals for the lunch option and eating in town as a result. No evening entertainment except a 70s style keyboard and singer three nights during the week and generally the bar was empty the evenings albeit very well serviced by the excellent Angelo. However, overall a very good value for money hotel and would thoroughly recommend if you appreciate a quiet hotel and somewhat older hospitality style as a base for your own exploration. Final tip.. avoid the Tui excursions.. cheaper options to be found in town easily. More
