Grand Hotel President
With spectacular views over the Bay of Naples, the Grand Hotel President was an obvious choice for the Platinum collection.
The Grand Hotel President offers up some of the best views in Italy. The property is set on a hilltop and looks out over the Mediterranean Sea, Mount Vesuvius and the inlets of the Sorrento Coast.
The hotel is a great example of Italian good looks. The bedrooms are traditional, with tiled floors and plenty of inlaid wood furniture, while communal areas feature marble staircases and chandeliers. And the outdoor scene is one of landscaped gardens and manicured lawns. You'll even find a whirlpool bath out here.

A superb hotel that so nearly gets just about everything perfect.
This is a beautiful hotel with excellent staff and a friendly atmosphere. The hotel gets 95% of what it does fantastically right and if you have booked to stay here you will have an amazing time. We traveled as a family of 4 myself and my wife and our daughters aged 25 and 18. We had two rooms at the rear of the hotel (not Sea View which we knew). On arrival we were met by hotel staff who took our luggage from the bus to our room - wonderful start. We checked in really quickly and first impressions were excellent. We had possibly the worst positioned rooms in the hotel Room 446 and 434 but in terms of the layout and cleanliness they were fine. The hotel is 'upside down' so Ground is at the top of the hotel and floor 5 is at the bottom. At the rear of floor 4 the view is a courtyard backing on to a wall but as we spent no time in there during the day it dint' bother us and at an extra 18.99 per person per night for a room at the front of the hotel the back was just fine. Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and we never met anyone who did not try and make our stay as wonderful as possible. The hotel was clean and dinner was excellent.(having to don trousers for dinner didn't bother me) and the 3 course offer was always first class. You can get a nice bottle or Red or White with dinner for a reasonable 20 euro. There is a safe quiet path from the hotel to Sorrento which takes about 15 minutes which is easy to walk down, much harder back up!. The courtesy bus is excellent and always on time and driven by an excellent and careful driver. If you miss the last bus (11pm) be warned a taxi back is 28 euro. Where I feel the hotel could do better is in the pricing of food and drinks. At 4 euro for a coke or lemon soda and 9.50 for a gin and tonic, bacardi and coke etc 3 drinks each over 2 1/2 hours set us back an eye watering 152 euro per night. Add on to that lunch which if you have not gone out for the day is only available at the hotel as there is no alternate place to eat and priced around 12 euro per person plus drinks and a cover charge of 2 euro per person (to sit in your own hotel pool bar!) and your daily spend easily reaches 75 to 80 euro per person or for us as a family 300 to 320 euro a day. You can buy a coke for a euro in Sorrento so you do feel the hotel could reduce the mark up on drink to say 200% rather than 300% and still make money? The knock on effect was many people left the hotel on the night to get the courtesy bus into Sorrento. If you stayed at the hotel it was exceptionally quiet and the great entertainment available was wasted. As I said, the hotel service, food and accommodation is first class and you are pretty much guaranteed an excellent stay at the Grand Hotel President.More
Ala Carte Restaurant Grand President Hotel Sorrento
This 5 circle rating is for the Ala Carte Restaurant only NOT the entire hotel. I will write a separate review for the hotel. There are two restaurants in this hotel for dinner. One is a set menu, set price. We opted for the ala carte restaurant and SO glad we did. It has a very nice menu of selections from appetizers through main courses and desserts along with an excellent list of wines local to the region. Our server was Nicola who was fantastic! The chef, Danielle, also came out twice to speak with us and talk about the food selections and see how we liked it. The food, service, everything was excellent. On top of all that, the view is amazing from high up on a hilltop overlooking Sorrento and the Bay of Napoli. Definitely recommend! Grazie mille Nicola e Danielle!More
Great view, less convenient
Our family of four stayed here for three nights in two Superior Rooms. The rooms were considered the newly renovated rooms. Our room had the old gold comforter white our teens had a the new brighter line green one. It was not soft and didn't match the decor. The rooms were small but facing the sea. The shower was adequate and the bathroom was newly updated. The room was very bright, We didn't realize until check out that the sliding glass door window had shutters we might have been able to close for darkness. The breakfast was full American and self service. No coffee or water was served by waiters. There were plenty of choices and an omelette station and wonderful baked goods and breads. The hotels had a retro vibe. Perched on the mountainside , they hotel offered amazing views. It comes a the price of convenience however. The shuttle runs on the hour and doesn't run mid day. We were touring Sorrento and had to cab it back due to no shuttle service until 5pm. Cabs are very expensive and at least a twenty minute wait from the hotel. $35.00 each way. We negotiated $30 The staff was wonderful and inviting. They were always there to offer reservation suggestions and any assistance we needed. The pool and the service were excellent. There are always those guests "saving" seats early am, however we tended to visit it after a day exploring so we always found chairs. The rooftop terrace had a lovely bar and seating however it wan't open during a typical 4pm happy hour time. Disappointing as it was a quiet place away from the pool. The lobby bar offered lovely appetizers late afternoon and the prices and service were great.. There are many places down the hill that still afford a view but would still be walking distance to town and Marina Grande area. I would stay closer to town next time.More
Traditional Italian Hotel
First impressions of this hotel are excellent. It's location on the hill overlooking Sorrento is one of it's main selling points. The views are fantastic, and enjoyed from the dining room and bar. The hotel is very classic in style, and this is also reflected in the high quality service. Two examples: from the moment we arrived Michel the porter took care of our luggage; in the dining room you are seated and service is a la carte. The hotel makes an effort to be environmentally friendly, which is great. There are recycling points on each floor which we made use of regularly. My only concern is that in the bathroom we had two plastic cups wrapped in more plastic. If the hotel wants to help the environment then surely these should be removed and changed to glass - this is better for the environment and is a higher quality amenity for guests. On the whole, the staff are exceptional. In particular, Nino and Diana in the bar every night served so well, and thank you to Nino for the cynar cocktails! The only issue with staff we had was that on the first day when we had lunch at the snack bar, the pool waiter took it upon himself to sneak up upon my mother whilst she was seated, to deliberately scare her. He apologised but this "practical joke" was in poor taste and not befitting of the hotel. This was the only blight of our visit. However, the hotel is certainly very good and we enjoyed the stay.More
At the top of Sorrento
We had been to Italy previously and spent much of our time touring from Venice to Rome. Decided to stay in one place this time. Couldn't have picked a better location. This hotel above Sorrento with it's magnificent view of the Bay of Naples is really top notch. From the reception area to the bus drivers it couldn't have been much better. The food and amenities were very nice. It's a long walk up the hill from town, but after a delicious meal of the local cuisine an invigorating walk is not such a bad thing.More
