We have been home for just over a week after our 3rd visit to CGB. We decided to try somewhere different last year & went to Zante. Just kept comparing it to CGB ,so although we really aren’t people who visit the same place more than once CGB keeps pulling us back! Everything people say about the hotel, family & staff is true... from arriving on the minibus to leaving we felt like valued guests( not just a business transaction) Nothing is too much trouble.. everyone is so genuinely lovely & welcoming. Breakfast was fine for us... admittedly not rows & rows of choice but a good start to the day. The quality of the food on an evening was amazing... every night... honestly spoilt for choice. The rooms had been upgraded since our last visit & were kept spotlessly clean by the lovely, hardworking housekeeping staff. The absence of a fridge in the room has never bothered us & if we wanted the air con on any earlier Anastasia was always happy to do this. There is so much more I could say about CGB but it’s all been said numerous times by others. If you are thinking about visiting you will not be disappointed... we had a week of pure relaxation, fabulous food, friendly service & great choice of drinks at the bar. The resort is quiet on a night but doesn’t profess to be a party place. We liked Vistonia Cocktail Bar & St George Bar for drinks on an evening.Taverna Nautika & Ammos were good for lunchtime food( along with the hotel lunchtime menu too) We are already looking to book for next year( hopefully 10 days as a week just wasn’t long enough!)More
A Greek Gem
What a wonderful place, the family greet you as long lost friends. Nothing is too munch trouble. We spent 1 week with our special little boy who had never been abroad before. He loved it. Splashing in the family friendly pool and eating his way through the fantastic buffet selection at breakfast and dinner. The rooms were comfortable and had a lovely balcony to enjoy the sunset on. Will I return? Did Odysseus? Thank you Costas Golden Beach.More
Part of the family!
We were attracted to this hotel because of the incredibly high trip advisor ratings – and we were not disappointed! Arriving at 6:30am after a delayed flight, it was special that Dimitris himself was there to greet us, as if we were old friends! ‘Check in’ was the simplest we’ve ever come across and our bags were taken to our room whilst we enjoyed a fresh coffee watching the waves. As other reviewers have said, there’s no fridge in the room. But it’s surprising that after the first day you don’t really miss it. The air con is controlled by Reception – but you can turn the fan on within the air con system whenever you wish and this was sufficient most of the time. If you really need air con, a quick call to Reception and it’s on in a jiffy. We found the beds to be quite hard but they were recently purchased and made locally and apparently had a hard and a soft side – call Reception and they would flip it over for you. There was a super soft pillow and a firmer one too – again locally made. Shower was good and powerful – you could either have it as a normal shower or flip it to be a rainfall one. The views from the room were amazing, looking out to sea and the sound of the waves lulled us to sleep at night when we chose to sleep with just the fly screen across. Breakfast was fresh and lovely with PG tips for those wanting a taste of home, Nescafe and filter coffee. The evening meal was superb. Homemade Greek/Corfiat cuisine with 3 or 4 choices every night on a buffet style. Always a fresh salad and much of this was home-grown and was so tasty. Dinner is available until 9pm but unlike the UK, this doesn’t mean ‘last orders at 9pm’, it means they’d like to start clearing away at 9pm! The staff always eat after every guest has finished so the time limit is understandable. However, on a day we went on a trip and didn’t get back until 9pm, they were waiting for us, allowed us 5 mins for a quick wash and had left the restaurant open for us. Unbelievable personal touches! Evening entertainment was low key and usually started around 10pm. Greek dancing, karaoke, bingo etc. It was lovely that Anastasia always used our names when she spoke to us – another personal touch. We hired a car from the hotel – 50 Euros plus 8 for extra insurance. The roads are a little hair raising but we visited some lovely places. Tui offer a variety of excursions – we went on the Two Islands cruise. It was good but picture hundreds of people crammed onto a small ferry with less than comfortable seating. After the relative peace and space of CGB, it was a shock to the system! Also a long day – 7am pick up and not back til 9pm. Bus outside the hotel goes to Corfu town – 8 Euros return and the journey is just over an hour. Turn left out of the hotel and 100 yards down the road there is an independent tour operator too running trips on different days to Tui. When we left we needed late check out as we were not being picked up until after midnight. We were able to keep our room until 6pm for an extra 25 Euros – well worth it! What really makes this hotel, is the family behind it and the effort they go to make you feel welcome. You feel like you are staying at the house of a friend, rather than in a hotel. The family have built this hotel and business from the 1980s when there wasn’t even a proper road in Agios Georgios and it is clear that this is their world – one that we were honoured to be a part of, even it was only for one week. We wish the family all the best for the future as they truly deserve it.More
Heavenly ... but keep it a secret.
Once we got over the fact there is not much to do except go to the spotless beach with the clearest water or laze by the beautiful pool, we were in heaven. The resort consists of about a dozen tavernas and about half a dozen shops. The hotel staff are all superb. The food is varied and plentiful. There is a nice bar. The rooms are clean and adequate with a great mosquito screen across the balcony doors. The other comments about not having WiFi in rooms are daft. We didn’t go there to visit the internet or pick up emails! You can take loungers and a parasol across the road to the beach. The beach is never busy. Great snorkelling or just drifting around on an inflatable watermelon or the like! The sea was really calm except for one day when the waves were enormous - not a problem, go to the pool instead! There is a water fountain for free water refills. The air con only works at night. Just remember to close the balcony doors and mosquito screen to gain maximum benefit. All in all, it was the best holiday my husband and I have ever, ever had. Just hope it doesn’t become too popular. If you want somewhere to recover and recuperate from a busy schedule, this is the place. We will be back. Thanks to all at Costas Golden Beach.More
Great relaxing holiday
Recently returned from an extremely enjoyable, relaxing break here. It was our first trip abroad as a couple with our nearly two year old son and we were expecting a stressful holiday chasing around after him. However Costas Golden beach seemed to have some magical effect on him and our holiday couldn't have been more relaxing. From the moment we arrived and were warmly welcomed to the hotel as if it was the owner's home, to when we left we had a superb time and most importantly my son loved it! The family were lovely, accommodating and made us feel very relaxed. They gave my son lots of attention and their dogs and cat were of great entertainment to him. The rooms are clean and simplistic which was great as nothing untoward for my son to mess around with and the balcony had plenty of space for relaxing when it was time for his nap or bedtime. We were provided a travel cot free of charge which helped with the baggage allowance on the flight over. There is no fridge for milk but it was not an issue as they were happy to keep it in their fridge and I'd just go and fill up my son's bottle in the morning and evening. Mosquito nets were a great addition. In the evening the pool area is closed off so you can sit peacefully on the balcony enjoying the sound of the sea and my son slept through nearly every night with no issues. There is free, filtered drinking water which was a great addition. Perfect for children's water as you can only buy mineral water in Corfu and this is not suitable for under 2 year olds. The hotel is immaculate. We were amazed to see Dina out all day long in over 30 degree C tending to all the flower beds, something you took for granted but really made the hotel feel special. The pool was a good size and there was always plenty of space for anyone who wanted to swim. My son was in there all day long and even learned to swim on his own which made the holiday even more memorable. There were always sunbeds so there was no need to stress you'd be up at the crack of dawn to guarantee a bed. There is also a tennis court/football pitch which my son enjoyed kicking a ball around. We only ate here as a good quality high chair was provided, the service was quick for lunch and there was always a fresh buffet for breakfast and dinner with a good range of choices. I especially liked the home grown tomatoes and salad at dinner and the homemade marmalade at breakfast. Drinks and food was excellent value and could be settled at the reception once a day which made it easy so we didn't feel the need to go elsewhere. The beach is literally opposite across a very quiet road and there are sunbeds and inflatable beds available to carry down which was great and we spent many an hour on the beach. We rented a car from the hotel one day and went to a couple of other highly rated beaches and they were not as good as the beach opposite the hotel so do not feel the need to go searching for others! I can't comment on evening entertainment as our son was always in bed around 8:30. We sat on the balcony until around 10 and then went to sleep and we never heard any noise despite the doors being open to the balcony and our room being quite close to the bar and reception. I summary, if you have a toddler and want a relaxing holiday do not hesitate booking this hotel. You will not regret it. Just don't forget to get a couple of bottles of the hotels homegrown and pressed olive oil that my son couldn't get enough of during the week!!More
